I did something to my wrist and hand that both agreed we shouldn’t try again. I am trying to see if i can sleep it off and bypass the er. I can’t afford it even with insurance. I am still paying off my last visit.

Can you swing by an urgent care instead? They’ve been really good about diagnosing almost everything I’ve broken.

I’ve known so many people who thought they had a sprain and it ended up broken.

Heavy bruising would be the biggest indication that it’s broken, and not sprained, but a bad sprain might still bruise if you tear a muscle as well.

I’ve broken ribs, a wrist, fingers and toes, but spraining my ankle was more painful than anything.  Thought I broke my leg. Took a few months to heal.

Could you get a regular appt instead of ER. My doctors office has an X-ray in it. That would probably be cheaper than ER.

Couple of things, kinda had a meltdown and punched my steering wheel hard enough to get my horn stuck, then later in the day hyperextended it while trying to force an over torqued part. It seems better, i can pick things up, just not support any significant weight.

It hurts almost as bad as when i fractured my rib, not nearly as much as my first hernia.

if it looks straight, it’s not broken enough to need the ER on the weekend. the xray can wait a day or 2. protecting it from fur ther damage can easily be achieved by just sitting on the couch, but taping it can help if you’ve got stuff to do. if you hurt in a spot called the anatomic snuff box (google it) your xray becomes mandatory to look for a fracture in the scaphoid (AKA navicular) bone because they don’t heal well. good luck.

Ice and ibuprofen.

Yup. Limped my busted ankle into the ER, hoping it was a sprain, left on crutches with my foot in a cast. Later had surgery to put the pieces back together because apparently I’m too restless for it to set,  even in the cast. If it happened again I’d opt for the surgery straight away.

Might not be a bad idea to get a splint or brace at the drug store for the time being. I broke my humerus snowboarding and it was a week before I got xrays, but once I stopped accidentally trying to use that arm or bumping it on things it helped a lot.
