"Long_Voyager, Now With More Caravanny Goodness" (long-voyager-2nd-edition)

Talking about minivans at work today, the new “Voyager” came up. I think given it’s just a cheaper Pacifica it will be a flop, especially considering it only starts $2k cheaper than the Pacifica.
Then I remembered the talk last year of building a swb minivan off the Journey’s platform. This got us talking, what if Chrysler made the Voyager this swb minivan?
They could keep the Journey’s Penta/6-speed/AWD chassis, change the body style slightly to add sliding doors/lower floor/better seating , and sell it close to current Journey/Grand Caravan pricing/packaging!
People’s 2 biggest complaints on minivans are their size and lack of AWD, kill 2 birds with one stone, give people smaller AWD minivans at an affordable price!

I like it. The sliding doors should be a simple graft and it’d be a decent option. I don’t need stow and go, but AWD would be nice.

I like this idea, especially when the Journey is IMO one of FCA’s more attractive ‘family’ cars. That being said I thought the Journey was for people who needed a van, but didn’t want a van and also had awful credit. I also didn’t realize the Pacifica was that much bigger. I also think bringing back the Voyager name is genius, there seems to be a lot of positive nostalgia there, especially for kids who grew up in them

Those are the third and fourth biggest complaints. One and two are that they looks like eggs and make it seem as if you have sex maaaaybe once a week.

Whoah. Just imagine how many would have sold if the Pacifica had been initially been built as a slightly smaller, more efficient alternative to the minivan.

Yeah I too kind of doubt the market would want a smaller minivan, even with AWD. It’s not like the Mazda5 sold that well. Crossovers are hot and people will continue to buy them even if a minivan would suit their needs better.

Don’t know how a box on wheels looks like an egg.......I mean other minivans sure, but the Grand Caravan is definitely not an egg.

The problem I have with them bringing back the name is they’re slapping it on a cheaper Pacifica. I could get behind it more if they called it a Grand Voyager as the lwb models were always a Grand, the swbs were always just Voyager.

I honestly don’t care about AWD, but I will say the extra size of our GC is kinda a hassle compared to my older swb vans.

Only if they offer a Rally Van version...and give you credit.

My credit would be going out and buying one.
Alternatively, they could “gift” me the first one off the line as a thank you for bringing back the minivan!

So the Town & Country would have been the lower model? And that Journey from the front is very similar thematically to your van

Honestly, they should have never killed the Town and Country name.

but minus sliding doors the journey already is those things plus it's a journey.

My perspective on what constitutes a box on wheels might be a bit skewed.

That would require Chrysler to actually invest money into a new vehicle. Not gonna happen.

Um, the Pacifica was all new......That’s managed to scavenge sales from other minivans. The GC still outsells every minivan on the market, but the Pacifica is a close 2nd.

Lack of sliders and lack of room in the 3rd row thanks to the high floor make it a PITA to actually use. Lowering the floor and adding sliders would make it a far more functional vehicle.

It was all-new, yes, and that makes it the newest car in the FCA lineup by many many years.

Eh, the rest of the lineup is still competitive and printing them money, why change things that still work perfectly?

Considering that the Journey was designed to replace the swb Caravan, because people didn't want something that looked like a minivan but they did want AWD. Making the Journey look like a minivan might not work for the majority of people.

IMO all 3rd row cuvs look like minivans anyway, why not give them the more useful door layout that goes along with it?
