Long day on the road, Toyota remains solid.
435 miles is a pretty solid day. About a 45 degree change in temperature. The place the dairy folks put me is fantastic. People here are so nice it is like not being in California at all. It was an amazing drive in an open air vehicle - the smell of the redwoods, the livestock, and the moisture in the air as we hit Ferndale - all of it was really cool.
I am staying in a beautiful converted farm house, and the cat here and Toby are very curious about each other.
I didn’t take many pics on the way here because I was driving and didn’t stop much. I will try to take more on the way back, as I plan driving on the coast on the way he tomorrow. I got a late start on the way here, so not as much time to explore. In Hopland (pictured below) I filled up the tank of a young guy who was stranded in an older 4Runner. He was working some sort of gig economy delivery job, and ran out of gas far from home in Latonville. So I was the sucker who bought him a tank of gas. He seemed grateful, and was really nice, so why not?
Oh yeah, I ate Portuguese paella for dinner. Yum
I got some inside dirt last night of some of the ag politics. Man, I thought lawyers were sleazy. Some dirty shit goes down in politics, and a lot of it is from people who are supposed to be on the same side.
It’s a dirty game. You got to be careful about who you fuck with and who you don’t fuck with.
I’ve never been good at that part.

Re: political/business sleaziness - California is definitely warm Nova Scotia in that regard. Actually California may be better since the Irvings aren’t involved.

Giving people gas in their car is certainly better than giving people money. There isnt really anything nefarious someone can do with that gas. They would have a hard time reselling it for drug money at least. So its likely for a legitimate cause I would think! People always seem to walk around with a gas can near me and ask for money. That seems less than legitimate usually.
Looks like a cool trip though!
