Watched the first episode last night - at first I thought it was going to be terrible and overproduced, but after watching the entire episode, it wasn’t that bad. One of the hosts is TGUS retread Rutledge Wood and he’s his usual self here too, somewhat knowledgeable but overly excited.

The premise is that these drivers are racing their own cars around this crazy obstacle course - in the first episode, they had to run through a course that included executing a J-turn, then doing two 540's in a four square box, then driving on a shallow path through ostensibly deeper water and then the “Leveler” which is a giant bridge/see-saw contraption.

It’s way overproduced, but I was actually entertained. Top three times from the first course go through, bottom three are eliminated. The folks in the middle apparently get to compete in more challenges. If you have Netflix, give it a watch - we need more car-based programming.

You know you work tech way too much when you glance at the YouTube thumbnail and the first thing you notice is that their helmet doesn’t fit right at all. One size bigger, tighter on the chin strap. Right now it’s going to suck if that head and neck restraint gets utilized.

Not sure if he’s going for the Dale Earnhardt bubble goggle  look or the fighter pilot look. Bubble goggles are cool, fighter lenses are try hard.

I noticed helmets seemed to misfit a few of them, not sure why.  Hell, one of the competitors was Michael Pettiford, who is a six-time SCCA champ.

Were they all given the same type of helmet? The show may have gotten sponsorship from a helmet company and probably wanted everyone to be using open face helmets anyway for filming reasons. So out with each drivers personal helmet and in with an ill-fitting loaner helmet.

I made it through the first contestant and gave up.

The contrived competition is cliche and overwrought. The hosts are clueless, apart from Rut. They do not spend enough time talking about the cars, how they were built, why the driver chose theirs, etc. I don’t care for their personal motivation and inspirational stories. I want to know about the car.

No, because one guy had a carbon fiber open face helmet, but it seemed like most everyone else was wearing that plain white open face. It might’ve been that if they had an open faced helmet, they could use it, but if not, the show would provide one.

They all did wear HANS devices too - I think that’s what’s propping up the helmet in that Youtube thumbnail.  It exacerbates the poor fitment.

I got about half way through episode 3 and I didn’t think it was too bad. I’m wondering why all the underglow and flashing lights were installed on the cars

I saw an article that the producer liked it better. Apparently they brought in a ton of lights from NYC to make it happen because it was more “evocative.”
