Public transit sucks because local politicians get involved and fuck it all up.
Look a Marta in Atlanta, it goes nowhere, takes years to make any decisions and is mismanaged so badly it is a punchline.
In 2018 Gwinnett country voted to stay out not because public transit bad, but because Marta can’t be trusted to use the money the sales tax money to deliver transit services to the county.

Which, if you think about it... yeah. Because undocumented workers can operate below the artificial wage floor (minimum wage), they lower the value of labor. So eliminating undocumented workers restores the wage floor, a socialist concept.

Public transportation in the US sucks because back in the 1950s the government chose cars, highways and sprawl, and in most regions of the country (flat), the geography allowed it.

This was my take last week:
“ I think the main problem with transit in the United States is chasing trends(“lets do a monorail”), lack of early(every year of development of suburbs from 1950s to the present made it incrementally harder to get transit infrastructure in place) and consistent(transit projects are at the whim of whatever is politically popular at the time)development over time, and just generally trying to please everyone, even non-users who will never be users.”
But I’m not surprised there is just outside influences at play. There was a ridiculous group opposed to BRT expansion in Eugene when I lived there and it all felt very artificial.
