Anyone know if there’s a way to tell if it’s an I6 530i or a V8 530i ?

I think in that generation it was only 525 - I6 or 530 - V8. E39's had the 530 - I6. But I could be wrong, and I have no doubt someone will come here to put me in my place.

Wikipedia says the first few years of the E34 5 30i were an I6.

The US never got the I6 530i, but we did get the 530i V8 starting in ‘94 with either a 5M or 5A.

If it says 530i and is in the US it can only be the small V8; we never got the the 3.0  liter M30 engine in this country, only the bigger 3.5 (well, 3.4 actually) in the  sedans, and that engine was discontinued before the Touring model came out.
