A few months ago, my ceiling would leak every night at 2am on the dot. I put in a maintenance request five times and never got a response. The leaks stopped, so I stopped caring. Then I noticed discoloration above my shower head. I'm not sure whether it's mold or not, but - again - nothing has happened. I just gave up. But now..... what the actual fuck. This is new as of two hours ago. It's going to burst tonight, and I'm terrified of whatever lies beyond the ceiling. Maintenance is gone for the night. I'm going to end up with a stew of moldy roaches or something crashing down on my bathroom floor.

Time to grab a big trash can and start poking it. Try to put it in a bucket yourself instead of letting it burst onto the floor and spend 3 hours trying to clean it up.

Poke a hole in it on the tub side. If you’re lucky, it will pour into the tub instead of all over the floor. Have a trash can ready to catch it in case you miss.

Yay! My college apartment had a couple spots that blew up like that, but they were obviously dry so not as gross.

Ceiling boob is a rare beast. You only see it in the most neglected apartments.

How old is the apartment? That popcorn ceiling look if older than 20 years or so was most likely done with a compound containing asbestos. Newer texture products are probably safe (until we hear otherwise in 20 yrs). If they need to repair it they probably have to do some remediation or at least seal off the room (i’m no expert on that).

Luckily I was not dead. And honestly I was thinking I should get a hotel, but I was tired from traveling (I was away when this happened, obviously) and/or overwhelmed by toxic spores so I put up with it for one night, and then the next day the apartment did a sort of crappy painting/cleanup job (actually the cleaning woman did a great job, but they probably should have had her do so before they painted) that left me feeling like I needed to get out before the almost certainly not dead mold reasserted itself, but was good enough I didn’t feel like I was killing myself going in there.
Also I accidentally stepped in that slime at the bottom of the door, it was gross, but might make a good “natural” adhesive.

Yeah , this is hopefully my last one. My uncle builds houses, so he and my parents are going to help me get out of here. It's going to suck being responsible for my own maintenance, but at least I'll be *responsible* with it and actually fix things the right way.
