My friend runs his own little version of C&C Manhattan, but with cars more aligned with Bring a Trailer cars (E46 M3, GT350, First gen Viper, 911 4S, etc). Well he’s closing shop and I asked, for science, what buys his 04 STI with 74k on the dash and an engine rebuild at 72k...he told me $11k.

Normally I wouldn’t want to sell my TLX, but my commute to the gym I work at is 5 minutes and I had already planned to sell the TLX the moment my company gets funded. Buying the STI provides more fun, appropriate car for the current commute, and no car payment...

New engine at 72k? Do you have concerns as to what else might be worn out with this in mind?

clutch and flywheel were done at 68k, his uncle ripped this car apart at 60k in his shop  and replaced brakes, lines, checked everything etc

As long as the transmission is in good shape and the rebuild was done by someone competent I’d go for it. Only real issues with Subies are engines and transmissions.

I forgot the STIs got a different tranny than the one made of hopes  and dreams in the WRX.

Subarus are garbage and their engines are notoriously difficult to rebuild properly. 2k miles on a rebuild here is not enough miles to know if you’re buying a boat anchor.

You’d probably be fine. But it’s not a chance I would take. And remember, I own a single (out of four) vehicle that the internet at large would consider reliable. I like taking chances on cars.
