I’m an American and I eat fried chicken with a fork and knife, but I also don’t buy fried chicken from teenagers being payed minimum wage, so maybe I’m weird...

The British still haven’t figured out how to cook food, so who cares how they eat chicken.

I get them, I don’t like dealing with eating around bones, though I normally solve that by not buying chicken wings, etc. instead of chopping stuff up before eating.

Reading more, it seems like this is a terribly conceived anti-knife- violence campaign?

Well the minister of this office thought this was a great idea. Tone deaf puts it mildly

“Britain should use the potential damage to the Irish economy, including possible food shortages, to secure a better Brexit deal from the EU, a former cabinet minister has suggested.”

Wow, setting aside the idea of trying to leverage famine for political gain (and thinking that would make people more willing to work with you), I’m quite sure Ireland makes out a lot better than the UK in a no-deal Brexit. Not only do they have a chance to import food that would have gone to the UK but is now being hit with tariffs there, but I have little doubt Dublin is salivating at the chance to steal financial services jobs from London when the titans of Canary Wh arf are locked out of providing services to the continent.

A number of finicial firms have moved, ( including one by one of the hardline leavers.)

The main problem is that a lot of that food comes through the UK from Europe. Ferries have been allocated to ship from france, bypassing, but that adds a lot of cost and time.

It does seem a rather odd way to address knife violence, especially for me and I suspect most Americans.

My first thought was, “W hat does a knife have to do with eating fried chicken?” followed by, “Why is the government involved in how someone eats fried chicken?”

Its part of an anti knife violence/carrying campaign from what I can figure out.

I was thinking it could be a campaign to reduce disposable plastic silverware waste, but I’m pretty sure there would be better ways to do that too.

Oh, you think the British Empire had some inherent right to exist?

maybe consider that “feeling entitled to run roughshod over the world” isn’t a good thing...

I usually make it myself, but if I’m going to buy it I have a great local place that makes fantastic fried chicken with various asian bbq sauces. They also make great donuts. If you’re ever in Phoenix check out Welcome Chicken and Donuts. A bit hipster, but great food.

Wait, people are stabbing each other with disposable plastic knives from fast food restaurants? How is that even possible? Those things snap in half cutting a quesadilla.

Even if I tried, I don’t think I could ever be served by someone earning something akin to the AZ minimum wage... let alone more than it.

I looked up the AZ minimum wage, it is 12.3x higher than the Border Region Minimum Wage here. The BRMW was created in January.

Some scholars argue that it should be increased from 100 pesos a day (140 in the BR) to 500 a day. I didn’t like the idea of having two minimum wages, but still, the results were pretty good. In the BR, salaries across the board went up, and inflation was kept at a steady rate.

Im sorry I can’t concentrate on the chicken, I’ve been on a diet since like April.

You want to be served by people making less money?

I guess that explains why all the cooks in Arizona left Mexico to come here to make money.

Maybe I used the wrong wording. What I meant is that I know of zero restaurants that pay their employees something considered adequate or a “living” wage. They heavily depend on tips, which is horrible. Employees in higher end restaurants have a higher income, sure, but I’m not sure the few high end places offset the many regular ones.

But yeah, it’s hard to look at wages in the US and not be incredibly tempted. Minimum wage in Arizona is something like twice that of what a doctor would earn here.

I don’t think they’re shanking each other with plastic knives. They’re just trying to reduce stabbings with actual knives through this ad campaign by partnering with fried chicken restaurants who in support of this campaign got rid plastic knives( ?) from their orders and changed up the packaging.

At least I think that's what happening.

History is written by the winners and right and wrong has a lot of grey area. I wasn't endorsing the UK, but saying that the US should take heed before the government starts taking away our plastic forks.
