Only thing I’d change is the Kirkey for a sparco or Momo.

Nah... with that mileage, it’s crack pipe to me.
T
his was driven hard and put away wet.
Why would the seller spend all that money rebuilding the engine only to dump the car after 5000 miles? Nah... something is wrong here.
This is a $1000 car tops.
Crack Pipe at the $4200 asking price.

If it's a fun car/autocross car, 5000 miles can be five years. Koni yellows with ground control sleeves and eibach spring is a capable combo in a light car. Rode hard, yeah. I'd do the same and have a blast

What you’re paying for is the ostensible absence of rust, and Cash Rewards is right that’s not suspicious for an auto cross car, otherwise yeah red flag. This is one of the more desirable combos for a 90’s Honda and this one has not been destroyed by a teenager (most of these are much, much worse). This one is certainly CP though. If it’s a Honda, and the ad doesn’t show the rear wheel arches, then you KNOW they are rusted through.

You’re “$ 1k tops” comment is laughable, but the price is a bit high, depending on your locale. Around a $2k car in my AO.

Depends on your locale. Decent price, but not something I’d jump on unless I really wanted one. That’s around a $2k-3k car here.

My 2008 Honda Fit was CAD$4000 that I bought earlier this year. That’s about US$3000... a car with no major issues and only had 145,000KM/90,000miles on it at the time.
Also in terms of performance, stock, my Fit does 0-60 in 9 seconds...
about the same as this Civic SI in stock form. But the Fit has way more
safety features like front and side airbags and ABS. It also has 4 doors instead of 2.
So this seller wants MORE money for a not-rare, heavily beat on Honda with a rebuilt engine and 3x the mileage? With stock performance no better than my VTEC Fit? And less practical?
That’s pure crack... Rob Ford levels of crack.
Su
re
with the CAI and it
being chipped, it might make a bit more power than stock. But I doubt the difference is huge unless a turbo is added.
Y
ou’re still left with a high mileage car that has been beat to shit.
Nah... this isn’t even a $2000 car. It’s a $1000 car... maybe $1500 if I’m feeling REALLY generous.

Yeah and if I can get that much lower-mile with fewer dents and less beat-to-shit Civic SI for $2100, why would I spend anywhere close to that on the one above?

That’s because nobody want to drive a Honda Fit. Plenty of people want to drive an old Si hatch.
You’re obviously new to old vehicle markets, but things like performance, safety a nd mileage are irrelevant. People who care about stuff like that don’t buy old cars. I guess they buy Honda Fits.

Because those two cars are located about 3k miles from one another in completely different markets?

You aren’t buying this car for practicality or airbags. Your throwing sticky tires, finding an autocross s, and try to find the incredibly far limits of traction while daring yourself not to lift of the throttle

I’ve driven Hondas from back then. They were good for their time.
But by today's standards, they're nothing special.

Sure... but that doesn't change the fact that this car was beaten hard and isn't worth anywhere near the asking price.

Like I said, some people are into old cars, some people aren’t. I owned a Fit for a minute and it was slow and heavy compared to my first car, a ‘92 Integra . To each their own.
But comparing prices on a used Honda Fit (in Canada no less) to an ‘89 Si hatchback is laughable.

This is the rare time where mods add value, for me at least, because they’re the exact mods I’d do. Just saved me some time.

Sorry man, mods or not, that car is hard crack. Buying someone else’s project is a terrible idea, buying someone else’s track toy?.......You should be locked up.

Of course the 1992 Integra will be faster... it has a larger/more powerful DOHC engine than either the ‘89 Civic SI or a 2008 Fit.
Weighs about 5% more but has about 28% more power. So yeah... no surprise that it’s faster.
But I’m making the Fit/Civic Si comparison because I’ve driven Hondas from both eras and the comparison isn’t as laughable as you’d think.
The Fit is very much in keeping with what the Civic used to be back in the late 1980s to early 1990s. And that includes having some good engine swap options... like a K-series swap:
https://www.roadandtrack.com/car-culture/a22697519/honda-fit-engine-swap/
Or a L15B7 (the 1.5L turbo in the current Civic Si) swap:
