The coil was bad. Got worse and worse, and since I didn’t have a spare somewhere I could think of, had to buy one, buy a wire replacement kit (because Lucas style screw top coil being replaced), and after three parts stores stopped at, drive 40 minutes to deliver/oversee repairs.

Good thing too, because I noticed he wasn’t starting *this* time because he was out of gas. HURR

Anyway:

Kinja'd!!!

Safely got my four wheeled nuisance to his company’s car show and got to show off the Galaxie for about ten minutes. Nothing crazy there - two Scouts, one late 70s c3, second gen mr2, late 60s chevtruck.

Imagine not keeping a complete replacement ignition system in your trunk.

Bosch coil, but of utterly unknown age and provenance, and has been on the car since I rebuilt it. Suspiciously, it has a Lucas style twistie top; it is almost certainly either Britisch Bosh or made by Bosch to exacting Lucas lack-of-quality standards.

Well, the Galaxie trunk still doesn’t have the side fence boards, and the underseat bin on the Rover is being used to store the spare water pump and generator and... SHUT UP SHUT UP SHUT UP

The Rover was fairly unique there. The Galaxie less so, but still, and definitely had people who liked it more than the Rover.

There was one lady who knew it was a “60-something” and says she has a ‘62 500 in red with a Y-block and “not really anything wrong with it” that she’s trying to sell. Expecting like $1500. Because her son it’d been promised to doesn’t want it.

Kinja'd!!!

I’d have offered to buy right there except RAMBLIN NO

I would so like to have one of these.  But it’d have to be in drivable condition.

Update: the points had also closed up. Brother made it to about six miles away last night (worked late, the idiot) and then had to stop. Realized that was why he didn’t have spark, adjusted them, and away. Now idling properly as well.

Is it now Pertronix time, because spite and FTS?

I’ve been hearing less than favorable stories about new Pertronix stuff, though I’ve had really good luck with Ignitor setups in the past. Stories that would make me want to buy two kits to keep one for spares, at least.

On the plus side, they’re more or less cheap enough you could do that. At a minimum, you could keep the real points in the car just in case. Unrelated: I think it’s about time I stop procrastinating and buy a vacuum pump for the Benz. You still have The Hookup on brand and price for those?

I’d say yes, yes it is Pertronix time. I’m also a spiteful person so there is that...

I should, can look it up again . I can’t imagine pricing has moved much, if at all.
