The want is real. This isn’t the one for me (wrong color, not 1LE) but it has confirmed for me that I need a Camaro SS in my life.
I also sat in, but did not drive, a Mustang GT and a Challenger 392. The Challenger is a boat. Its a cool car, but not my style. If Im being honest the Mustang has a slightly nicer interior, and visibility is better. It would be the better everyday car.
But I also don’t care . The IROC-Z was my bedroom wall poster car as a kid, and I need it.

I can already feel the mullet growing...
I do really need a hair cut...
But I think I need ‘80s retro to become a thing, I feel like that should be getting close. We’ll k now for sure when we see new cars with popup lights...

If you’re ok with the abysmal visibility, DO IT.That 6.2 LS + Alpha platform is a gem

I might actually want a new car again if they brought back popup headlights..

I feel like the 80s appreciation tour has begun. Fiero, Mk1 GTI, Merkur XR4Ti, Mk2/3 Supra, Thunderbird Turbo Coupe, and more are already going up in price for good examples and we’re seeing people build up some of the more obscure cars to give them some love.
My litmus test will be the day people fawn over the Ford EXP showing up at a show. When that happens, we are full-on into the 80's retro timeline. (I want to turbo-4 swap a Ford EXP......because reasons )

Seeing is overrated. Going fast is life.

I am okay with this.
I like to think the market went “Give us a great Pony Car! ”
And Ford said “Heck yeah, well bring back the 5.0! And we’ll put it in a competent platform, and give it a trunk, and back seats, and the integration team will give it a great radio...”
And GM said “Hold my beer...” Because the only explanation I can come up with is someone made a racecar and then said “Oh shit, we need to at least try to make it kind of streetable, maybe.”

Sadly pop up headlights are illegal. :(
But yes, the 80s craze is upon us, and I for one welcome it. I feel like the 80s era of cars is much maligned as the malaise era, but in reality it was the era of reach exceeding grasp. It fomented many great ideas but the technology just couldn't support. Now the tech has caught up, and I want to see those things brought to life.

As far as I know they are not illegal as such, it’s just that they make complying with pedestrian safety regulations harder. That combined with the fact that companies were no longer required to use ugly un-aerodynamic sealed -beam headlights meant that pop-ups weren’t worth anybodies time. Especially in the age of LED lights I can see someone doing less ag gressive popups that have their motioned damped so they would absorb energy in a pedestrian impact rather than transferring it. They would of course be almost purely a style thing though.

I would like one too. The platform plus that V8 make this thing an actual sports car. Its just small. And the visibility sucks. I would go for a convertible to fix that. Other than that the downside to it that was weird for me? Its the only car I have ever driven that drained me after driving it. I felt tired for some reason after driving it.

I didn’t realize that, I thought it was just a blanket no. But i think you may be on to something - a low profile LED pop up that will retract in the even of a strike.
I like where this is going.

A 2016-18. I cant stand the 2019 front end on the SS and the 2020 is only a mild improvement . I actually prefer the LT front end.
Though I have looked to see if I could get a deal on a 2019 SS 1LE, and then I could swap on a 16-18 front bumper, or maybe even a ZL1 bumper. For the right price it would be worth it to me, but alas, I dont think its going to happen.

Agreed on all points. My test drive was pretty short, there aren't a lot of good, fun roads around here to work it out in. But I can see it being a car that demands a lot from the driver, so I can see why you'd be tired.
