Mexico’s IRS is seizing some of Interjet’s assets due to failure to pay debts, Interjet is also having staffing problem, and their purchase of the Sukhoi Superjet is biting them in the ass more and more as time goes by.

Kinja'd!!!

It’s a shame because interjet is my favorite airline, it has better service than Volaris or VivaAerobus, and it’s cheaper than Aerom exico.

That would be a shame. Interjet is one of the more interesting spots at DFW following a steady diet of American Airlines. It would be nice to spot a Sukhoi. I’ve never seen one.

VivaAerobus sounds pretty crappy. Volaris sounds good, though I can picture them being a modern value airline. Same with interjet. AeroM exico of course sounds like a stodgy state airline with high prices and adequate though disinterested service.

I of course have no idea how any of these airlines actually are.

I will however rank their liveries:

AeroM exico (nice colors, I like the Aztec (or whatever) guy, though the red stripe is kind of just floating there, like a toddler drew on a wall)

interjet (pretty clean, I like the plane * logo, interjet font isn’t great, that light blue could be a little brighter? )

Volaris (maybe it’s just the blocky tail design, but this reminds me of a purple-engined Spirit. If you are reminding people of Spirit, you are doing a bad job as an airline )

VivaAerobus (Gaudy while also being way too white. These look like were designed to minimize repainting costs when they inevitably tank)

Maybe they could lease their 737s to SWA and their airbus to United/American to augment the zero max policy.

they don’t have B737, only Airbus and Sukhoi

So that’s not gonna help.

People still might take the Airbuses (presumably not Southwest). I don’t imagine there are many American airlines who’d be rushing to say “Well our MAXes aren’t safe, but don’t worry, we got some Russian planes second-hand in Mexico to fly you on”.

In Soviet America Russia should fly you.

that ranking is pretty accurate as far as I’m concerned.

I don’t think they fly the russian jets internationally. Even if the Superjet is certified by the FAA, I think.

Maybe they can take a page out of Willie Nelson’s book and do some IRS flights?

According to this they were planning to fly it into Houston (and maybe San Antonio), though I don’t know for sure if that happened: https://www.routesonline.com/news/38/airlineroute/244075/interjet-starts-monterrey-houston-service-from-late-oct-2014/

“ As of March 2019, 15 of Interjet’s 22 SSJs were out of service. Talks with Sukhoi were deadlocked, with Interjet reportedly unwilling to pay for repairs to the PowerJet SaM146 engines. [100] Interjet’s reliability issues are compounded by the lack of service facilities for the SSJ, a factor which also contributed to the poor reliability recorded by CityJet. [101] On 15 May 2019, Interjet announced that it is to sell its 20 SSJs, of which only five are operational, as it is no longer profitable to operate aircraft of this size in Mexico.”

Well that didn’t go as planned. What did they expect?

Looks like the Superjet goes to Houston 6 days a week: https://flightaware.com/live/flight/AIJ4980/history/20190814/1530Z/MMMY/KIAH

I’ve been wanting to get to Houston for some spotting. There’s an Oppo (EL_ULY) who lives right on the landing path.

Thanks.
