Looks like he tried both the two small turbos, as well as the big single turbo approach.

Spotted these in the Teylers museum in Haarlem, the Netherlands, which is basically a collection of cool stuff a nerdy rich guy amassed in the late 1700s . It has some archeology, science, early engineering, art and some gems/minerals/stones. It’s also the official location of the peak of the Mont Blanc!
