Have you had any experience with KYB? I’m looking at buying a pair but I’ve had the impression they’re a lesser brand

I bought a set of KYBs when I had the Roadmaster. They were fine for on the road regular driving. They were completely incapable of controlling the front wheels from bouncing like crazy when I rallycrossed it.

Nothing wrong with KYB. They are like stock.

KYB is the largest shock manufacturer and the OE supplier to most Japanese cars.

Which variety of KYB did you use?

Our SF Forester runs a set of KYB shocks. I'd happily use them again.

I put the same ones on my firechicken a couple  years ago. Much better than 27 year old factory shocks.

I have them on my car and truck. Good as oem. Perfectly fine for a daily driver.

Probably Excel-Gs, then. Which are a totally fine OE-equivalent. I suspect their performance or heavy-duty shocks might have fared better for rallycrossing .

I have KYB AGX adjustable on the Exocet. They have 4 different settings. It took some time for them and the springs to loosen up (probably a factor of having almost no weight on them) but taking it for a ride tonight, I felt quite a bit better about the purchase. There’s some badly dipped pavement on one of my favorite roads that my Miata (on the Flyin Miata Classics) will hit the bump stops on every time. The Exocet gets close but doesn’t. Funny thing is that in the Exocet, you can actually hear the suspension compress when you hit a large slow speed bump like that.

Would that maybe be a result of how bouncy it would have been stock, meaning that they were a sufficient replacement for OEM? Also rallycross roadmaster HELL YES

For the Exocet what ‘car’ did you have to buy your shocks for? Or were you able to order KYBs for the Exocet? I’ve seen most of your posts about it but I don’t quite remember. That is quite the endorsement though. I think KYB owes oppo   a sponsorship, I’ve decided  on the pair of Gas-A-Just (KYB also has a sink to LeMons stories on their home page, that may have helped)

Honestly, I don’t know, but it’s likely that they were sufficient to replace OEM and so that’s how it would have been. They were fine on the road . I only rallycrossed it the one time. I went off in the last turn of the last run, and stuffed it into a set of motocross whoops. Shoved the radiator back into the steering box, which leveraged the oil cooler lines down and snapped the radiator’s end tank. Went home on a wrecker. The tow home cost exactly twice the price of the new radiator. Got AAA after that debacle.

I miss that Roadmaster so much.

You can read all about the adventure here, if you’re interested.

Hah. It's all Miata components. It was just like doing struts and springs for an mx5.

Not directly with the aftermarket replacements. Most Subarus use KYBs as factory equipment, and I have no complaints.
