On to #4 on our list. This spot is dedicated to a style of bike that needs a few things to be enjoyed right. They are as follows:
1: the twistiest, more winding road you can think of
2: having experianced a big bore, high horsepower bike
3: next to no traffic
4: having the skill to really push this bike to what it can do.
What is it? A light weight, twitchly, fast handling motorcycle on tight twistly roads.
Now, Why do I mention point number 2? Well, a lot of people who have yet to experance a higher HP bike (or #2 in this series) will spend more time complaining about the lack of HP and not being able to rocket out of the corners as hard as they would want.
Which isnt the point of this exersize. little bikes flip-slop side to side with concerning speedd, making them some of the most fun things you could possibly take through a proper canyon run.
The above photo and video is of the same day, i was riding a friends CBR 250R (with a bunny backpack for shits and giggles) And just absolutly HAULING through the gap.
Serisously, being able to pull one of these little bikes through the roads at what can only be described as hyper-legal speeds is fun as hell. You arent every really afriad because you know the bike wont just run away from you, but you have to really work those lines to keep up the momentum.
And even if you take it a little bit slower. its still a lot of fun to just be able to toss in a lighter bike and to enjoy the ride3. the lighter fuel and tire bill at the end of the day is also something to be appreciated.
Now, I got into a bit of an argument with Decay over weather or not supermotos should be on this list. They certianly fill in the spot of lightweight bike..but the funky ergos and tall seat makes me shy away from including them here.
Either way. brap on friends. Brap on.

I simultaneously love and hate mountains roads.

I still kind of wish I had kept my Ninja 250. Those little bikes so stupidly fun to throw around.

Part of the reason why I bought that CBR250RR. Next year, I’ll take it down to the dragon once I get the suspension, brakes and tires properly sorted.

Corners are where the fun is on a motorcycle. On mountain roads, most corners are blind. You can’t see far enough ahead for the speed you can physically carry through the corner. If you carry the right speed, you have no room for error and if you drive with line of sight, you feel like you are not pushing.
I ride in the Rockies. S and, rocks, and morons are abundant. I m uch prefer a track but I’ll be damned if I don’t get up into the mountains as often as possible .

I wonder how many people actually buy the killboy photos as opposed to just using the proofs. I know I liked the proofs I got and felt like I had no need to buy anything with those instead.

enough to keep him around.
I do feel bad about using the proofs. I keep telling myself to set a photo budget, but I always blow it on gas or rubber...

This is where the supermoto comes in, I plan on making a “in defense of” post once P
eter finishes his series. But supermotos can rip twisties with a lot less risk than a sportbike (light or otherwise)
.
Pothole around the corner? m
eh
Gravel? meh
Wei
rd lines or pavement changes? meh
All you really need to be concerned about is animals or other vehicles crossing the yellow lines

Even the front end on a super moto will wash out on sand.

Same. I can ride at 10/10ths on a track, knowing that there is an ambulance < 2 minutes away if I wreck myself too badly. Serious injury is less likely due to tracks being designed with safety in mind, with plenty of runoff where needed. Plus, it’s the same 2-3 miles of pavement repeatedly, and I know exactly where everything is.
On a road, that drops to riding at 5/10ths immediately due to.... everything. Pavement, people, guard rails, wildlife, dirt, etc. The scenery sure is pretty though.
