"E90M3" (e90m3)

Back when I had the funds to get an E90 M3, the two colors that I was not interested in were black and red. Since then, those colors have grown on me. Today, in unnecessary car shopping with E90M3, !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
Despite it being it being eight years old, it’s done less miles than I have put on my own E90 M3. In fact, mine crossed the 25k mark in July of 2015; it currently has 48k on it. This E90 also comes equipped with the oppo favorite manual transmission.
The car looks like it’s in wonderful condition.
Those seats look quite fresh.
Anyone miss out on getting a low mileage E90 M3 back in 2014 when they were a lot easier to come by and need one now?
It is a bit expensive at 54k, in fact it’s 4k more than I paid more for my single owner example with 16k on it in 2014. Then again, apart from EAG, you’re probably not going to find too many more examples.

People that I know always act like the E46 is so superior but honestly I think the E90 has grown on me something fierce.

I detest black cars, having kept a past significant other’s clean for far too long. And black interiors heat up something fierce. That said, that is one striking car. Not to seem obtuse, but were those cars plagued by VANOS/some other engine problem. I mean, I know about the V10s of the era ...

They have rod bearing issues just like the v10, but I think most people usually get to around 80k before they need doing. So you’d have at least a few years with this one before you needed to really worry about it.

Throttle position actuators and there seems to be some rod bearing problems. There doesn’t seem to be a concise answer on the rod bearings.

Every other E9X M3 owner I meet I ask about rod bearings. Most seem to have gotten them changed. I talked to a guy with an E92 M3, who had done several track days and had them changed at ~65k and said they were fine. Talked to a girl with a 2008 E90 M3, and she said that at 120k hers definitely needed to be done.

It is a lot of money, but then the low mileage cars aren’t out there like they used to be. This is exactly why I elected to buy an E90 M3 over a 1M back in 2014, plus the M3 was the car I always wanted.

I have yet to drive an E46, but I personally like the E90 more, at least for looks, plus I think there is just something wonderful about the V8 noises it makes.

I don’t think most M3s are 4-5x more than a decent 335i, that said it really depends on what you’re comparing. If you’re looking at the numbers, the 335i can be made faster than the M3 pretty easily. I’ve never actually driven a 335i, but I do have a decent amount of seat time in my dad’s 135is, which is close enough. The 335i is a great car, there’s just something about that V8, it just has this character to it. I drove a 1M and that’s what I got out of the experience . The V8 in the E9X M3 is special. Is it worth double the price of the 335i? It’s hard to say, if you can afford it, maybe. Every other E9X M3 owner I talk to also loves it car, it’s not the fastest car, but it is special.

I think the issue is clearance related, apparently there isn’t enough room for enough oil to flow to the bearings? Especially since they run 10w- 60. Maybe small assembly or casting differences in each engine can make a difference in how well oil flows to the bearings. Along with OCI intervals of course. I don’t really know though, I’m kinda talking out of my ass here.

I know that was an issue with the E46 M3, at least the oil channels; my uncle had the engine in his 2001 replaced as part of a recall. I’m not really sure on what the issue it, personally I think it’s partly because people drive them hard before the engine is fully warm. I don’t take mine above 3-4k until it’s fully up to temperature. It’s also possible that the really long change intervals BMW recommended had something to do with it. I change it annually as I do >3k a year , but I did have an analysis on oil that I ran to just under 10k and it came back squeaky clean.

I kinda went to the extremes on the price difference. I’ve been thinking more and more about trying to up my game to the 335i. The 328 engine is nice, but it leave a lot to be desired in character.

I guess the reason I don’t mind is the fact that I have the M3 in the garage. Personally, the only the only let down for me on the 328i is the power. If it had just a bit more it’d be better. Don’t get me wrong, I really like my 328i, but I’d like it more if it had about 30 more hp and an LSD.

Above my pay grade - I can do a simple tuneup, change the diff oil, and rebuild a carb if you give me 2 weeks. Otherwise, stumped.

$54k?! Sweet lord...I’d trade my car in and get a brand new GT350 in exchange, plus still have cash leftover to buy a new computer!
...hope I get my car back today. This camaro, while fun to drive the convertible
across Florida bridges, is wearing on me.

At my cost plus the rental. Me and the Insurance are gonna have a chat later. I don’t get mad or agitated
very easy, but it took them 5 days to get to my car and inspect. My complaints tend to be rather epic and detailed.
Senior Service tech and Mechanic both admitted I got hosed pretty good and they loved the gem about the lady explaining how I was pushing the brake which meant it wouldn’t shift. So they cut me a deal to fix it. They will replace the clutch with no labor costs, which is solid. I supposed they also appreciated I didn’t come in there yelling....just with a raised eyebrow.
I am desperately
trying to get a house as the place I am renting is falling apart....and I am not kidding on that.
