I really can’t get behind these faux Series styled mashed up Defender things. Having owned both, it kind of takes the worst aspects of both and slams them together for no good reason. Those stupid steps are the icing on the cake.

The only positive is that the steering wheel is on the correct side of the vehicle.

Looks like it’s merely a 1980 s 110 County Station Wagon , before it became the Defender.

1983 110 County Station Wagon.

Nice, South African (Jo-burg), 110 County SW.

Damn...I’d forgotten about them. However, the mash-up sentiment still holds true. Defender looks with Series driveline (especially Series brakes!) and often an inappropriate engine. In Oz, they came with a superbly bullet proof Isuzu engine that was also very heavy... didn't do great things for handling but it was actually reliable.

True. In the U.S. it’s a way around the 25 year law. Buy an old Series III then use modern parts to bring it up to a newer look. Though some would retain more period features, to the lay man, it’s a Defender.

But the opposite is true also. There is a company called Bearmach in the U.K. the son of the owner demonstrated that they sell all the parts ou need for a Series III that he built one from parts in stock.

So you can have a brand new old Landie, or a new looking old Landie.
