I honestly thought Max had it in the bag after the failed Hamilton overtake attempt in the middle of the race.

It was very tense and it was just as good as the last 3 races, but in a different way!

Lost footage of Max on his final laps.

I’m glad the season has picked up a bit. Total Mercedes dominance has been boring. All due respect to Hamilton though, what a machine of a driver.

With how well Max has been doing, it does make you wonder if RBR would be ahead of Ferrari if Daniel Ricciardo had stayed on. I feel like its safe to say at this point that Gasly is useless...

Mercedes strategery  wins again. When they came in for tires, I said, “No way Hammy picks 18 seconds in 18 laps. No way.” I misunderstimated them.

Hamilton underestimated himself too, and he said he was sorry to the strategy team at the end for doubting them.

I don't think this was all strategy though. I very much doubt any other driver on the grid could have done basically nothing but qualifying stints like that to hunt down Max

I’m fairly sure Max could have. Not to take anything away from Hamiltons drive. Just sayin’. They are clearly the best two drivers out there right now.

And while I understand the logic of leaving Verstappen out, my mind was yelling at RBR to pit Max right after Hamilton went. Just knew those hards wouldn’t last as well and at least coming out behind Lewis would have been a fighting chance. He literally would have come out maybe a second behind. Both with fresh tires. Close enough to get into DRS range. And then put some Max moves on Hamilton.

Hindsight is a bitch.

Had the same thought.

If Max had had the tires, he would have stayed out front. In hindsight, it might have been better to go ahead and pit him for soft tires, even if it did put him behind Hammy. Then he could have had a fighting chance to pass him at the end. Either way, it’s nice to see a fight for the lead at the end of a race.

I don’t think so still for Verstappen. That kind of skill (quali laps for a whole stint) is something I’ve really only seen from Schumacher in the past 20 years.

Mercedes though did know something about the hards falling off a cliff when they pitted Hamilton. They knew that info because Bottas had been on those same tires since before lap 10, so they had the data to support changing Hamilton to a 2-stopper
