And now it’s our turn. Too early to know what’s happened, but a mass shooting in Dayton overnight has left at least 9 dead.

It’s time for me to renew my expiring CPR certification, and learn more first aid. I’m not going to be able to take on a shooter in body armor, although I’d try, but maybe I can still save someone’s life.

When doing your refresher, ask (if they don’t already do it) to cover deep penetrating wounds and gunshot wounds.
Always keep several pairs of nitrile gloves with you and a face mask.

I hate everything about this. I get squeamish just hearing about someone’s injury.

The other day, I walked into the gas station and immediately thought to myself, "what if I'm one of the victims of the QuikTrip Massacre today?" It's insane that society is so okay with this happening so often.

When we reached the point where school children were being massacred and not only did that not move the needle on gun control but the right wing started accusing the victims of being part of a hoax, that’s where I lost hope for any change until the GOP finally loses the demographics war.

You’ll be fine, once you get over the usual element it’ll come down to training.
You don’t need to carry much extra in your first aid kit either. Just a larger amount of gauze swabs to clean and dress the wound but also as a cushion for applying pressure to wounds or for packing wounds to help stem heavy blood loss.
If your around weapons I highly recommend carrying a couple of quick-clot packs and dressings.

Absolutely. I remember when gun control was just a matter of political opinion and not blatantly necessary. I don’t know what changed, but.... well actually....
I might sound like a nut right now, but I think this all started when we elected a black president. The far right lost their shit, and it gradually spread across the whole party.

I am so tired of this. Unfortunately, it is only a matter of time until it happens close to home. Today it happened in my community. Why is it so hard to get people on board with making changes? Something obviously needs to be fixed.
Kudos to you for keeping up on your cpr certification. You never know when it might be needed.

I woke up to texts from friends making sure we were okay. Their concern means a lot, but it’s a terrible way to wake up.

Agree. For me it was a missed call from my mom, for the third time this summer...

Yes, you sound like a nut. As expected, these incidents have increased along with the increased glorification in the media and increased stress put on the public. Removing guns from a suicidal public is like providing everyone with a free rubber band for their flawed iPhone so they stop “holding it wrong”.

Well, the Suprene Court has basically said that gerrymandering is perfectly okay, so we may be in for many more years of this sort of shit.

I don’t think it started with Obama’s election but that certainly inflamed things. A milestone like a black president was always going to incite a reactionary backlash, just like Jim Crow after the Civil War or the “conservative revolution” after the civil rights movement. Two steps forward, one step back.

I think we may be the only two people from Indiana who (publicly, at least) share those thoughts.
