I will never understand the English fascination with meat pastries.

Nah, a pasty is a British staple food, deep frying is known as a Scottish thing but is done all over the U.K.

You guys have McDonalds, KFC, etc... we have Greggs.

Kinja'd!!!

Bombay Potato Bake, Chicken Bake, Katsu Chicken Bake, Steak Bake, Vegetable Pasty, Cheese & Onion Pasty, Corned Beef Bake, Sausage, Bean & Cheese Melt, Beef & Vegetable Pasty, Sausa ge Roll, Steak & Stilton Roll and BBQ Pulled Chicken & cheese Melt.

You need Worcester Sauce to really set it off.

But you can turn it into a Cumberland Pie (which can be beef or lamb) , but top the mashed potato with breadcrumbs and cheese.

Or sub the mashed potato top with sliced potatoes.

You have never had a proper pasty/bake/roll/etc... then.

Tender chunks of beef steak and gravy in a fluffy puff pasty.

Or a sausage roll, seasoned pork sausage meat in a puff pastry sleeve.

I’m from upper Michigan originally, so the love of pasties is hard wired into my genetic code. I have some in my freezer right now. I may have to deep fry one some day soon.

Pasties are amazing.

On the way home there is a McDonalds, with a Greggs opposite which opened at 7am, but now it opens at 6am so I can pop in, grab some pasties, a couple of sandwiches or baguettes, doughnuts and have something tasty and filling in place of something that fills a hole briefly for the same money.

Greggs even do a frozen range as a national supermarket, so you can cook the same tasting pasties at home.

So good. Cheap quick food for eating on the go or sitting and eating at your leisure.

I am kind of surprised this isn’t more of a thing in the us. It seems tailor made for shoveling into one’s face regardless of the situation.

two words - spicy mushroom teriyaki, (though I respect and can appreciate pasties, especially a ground beef and onion one...)

Here in Colorado pasties are hard to come by. I lucked out because my parents were just in upper Michigan and they brought us back a bunch of frozen ones.

Apparently there’s a restaurant on the west side of town that specializes in them but I haven’t made an effort to find it yet.

It really is.

Americans like pastry (sweet pastries) and fast food.

Pasties are ideal.

Curry pasty

Texas BBQ Pork pasty

To me, a pastry is a sweet dessert with some sort of fruit filling. Meat is eaten either off the bone or on a split bun.

NOPE.

Well to some pudding is a dessert. But it’s also a steamed pie or an accompaniment such as a Yorkshire pudding.

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

Just like a pie doesn’t have to contain any pastry, be it filo, shortcrust, puff, etc...

To us Yanks, this is pudding

Kinja'd!!!

And this is pie

We would call the Yorkshire a beef pot pie and that second picture looks like some sort of mutant croissant.
