I chatted with the owner for quite a while after seeing the car at a gas station. I honestly couldn’t believe how clean the subie was. He showed me around the car, saying he bought it a few years ago and has loved it ever since.
90,000 miles, all the crazy electronic doo-dads work. An 80's car with hill assist. The dash moves up and down along with the steering wheel when it’s adjusted. And that glorious trigger shifter, with 4wd button on top.

Wow that’s exactly like my ‘89 (color and interior) except mine was an automatic and had a rear air dam (factory). Pretty cool car, honestly very slow but also very easy to drive.

That steering wheel makes my head hurt. What position is it in when driving dead straight? Fat spoke straight down I’m assuming?

Nice. I really wanted one of those in the 90s, but they stopped making them in 1991.
I thought tha t they were full-time AWD (I am probably remembering wrong) . Is it FWD or RWD when not in 4WD?

It’s in the correct position to go in a straight line, you can see the thumb hook on the left side, this wheel lends it’s self to steering with your hand at the bottom of the wheel.

This car is FWD until you push the button, like the GL wagon of the same vintage . They made several variations on the theme.
The autos were full time AWD-like a modern subaru, the manual XT-6 was full time AWD with a diff-lock button and the manual 4-cy NA was 2wd with push button for AWD. I’m not sure about the 4-cy turbo, I would assume it was like the XT-6.

Those cars get hot AF in the summer with all that glass, but the small cabin cools down quickly once the AC kicks on.

I need to dig up some XT photos and do a full review of that time I was an XT hoarder .
Other random facts: the cruise control won’t set above 79 mph.

I was shocked that all the gizmos worked correctly. Then he mentioned that he was an electrical contractor...
