Was out
bicycling
skipping through a meadow and came across some new friends. We stared at each other for a minute, then I took this pic. Then I went on my way and they went back to munching on grass. Probably could have walked up and pet a few of them.

Deer eyes are more suited to lowlight, and have poor bright light conditions, so if the sun is behind you they’l be quite blinded .

Lucky you! If you happen to have some extra venison sausage as a result of this skill...

Having been attacked by a deer (long story) I can tell you they’re not all that friendly.

Nice.
Have you ever approached a deer from the water (in a canoe or kayak)? If you are calm and quiet, they don’t run away; they just stare at you. You can get pretty close. Maybe bicycles have a similar effect.

i got a flat out on a trail and sat on a rock to fix it . I pumped up my tube and was was being as quiet as I possible so I could hear the leak when i heard a sniffing noise right behind me . I turned around and a deer had crept up behind me and was smelling me . as soon as i moved it jumped and took off but it was crazy how close the thing got to me.

There’s a decently-sized deer population at the lake where I like to ride, and when I go at dusk this tends to happen. Always makes me feel like Sir David.
