I have put in my resignation letter to my boss for the Parts Counter job at the dealership I work for. After August 9th I will no longer be employed and no longer living in San Luis Obispo.

It has been a wonderful time here and I am grateful for what I have learned and experienced. Now I will be moving back home to Long Beach to finish school and start a career. Looking at studying Mechanical Engineering. So that should go well I think. I will officially be an LA Oppo again XD.

Mechanical engineering is a great career path. I run recruiting for a civil engineering company but I’ve also worked for manufacturers that hired MEs. Either way I and a ton of other employers are beating down the doors of every halfway decent engineering school to get candidates for internships and entry level jobs.

You can get paid internships while still in school for $15-20/hour. Hit your school’s spring career fairs each year to line up a summer internship. Companies will try to make internship offers by spring break, and if they’re smart they’ll try to line up interns as new employees the next year.

Then when you hit your final semester, same deal, hit the career fair and give resumes to everybody. They’ll try to snap you up for an entry level job right after graduation.

Wow, congratulations! I am kicking myself for not majoring in Engineering. FYI, BMW is almost hiring interns at their not so top-secret testing facility in Port Hueneme. I doubt you’d want to live in Oxnard or work for BMW, but if it gets your foot in the door it might be worth pursuing.

Welcome back to LA soon then! Also, as a mechanical engineer, good luck. I have never actually had a job after graduation that was billeted as a mechanical engineer but such is life. I consider my experience doing electrical and software engineering to be more well rounded on top of the formal education anyways. Should you want any advice on the MechE life though, feel free to hit me up.

At least that surely means we will have another regular to show up to things!

Thanks mate! Yeah my partner Sen is a mechy too. Honestly why I got interested was helping him study and thinking, “oh shit I like this stuff and could totally be happy doing this career wise.” Like some reason my love for cars, trains, racing, and planes never lodged into my head as do engineering *shrug*.

Either way I will hit ya up if need be.

Haha I never connected those dots either. I enjoyed all things cars and planes and shit. But had absolutely no idea what to do with my life. Thankfully my physics teacher in high school suggested I check out Engineering and I kinda lucked out that it worked. Once I got to school, I realized that these were “my people” though. Everybody was weird and it was perfect. And regardless, you figured it out now so no harm in it taking a while! Always time to change career paths many times I suppose.

Ah, I did not consider our insane business plan! Since I am mortgaged to my eyeballs and feeding a nonexistent retirement and two college funds, I do appreciate your sacrifice. W e will need a seasoned LA personality for marketing purposes and engineer on staff to do stuff. There is indeed a surplus is guzzoline and beer to be consumed, and allies and V8s are few. I have re connoitered the bottom of California from the hills above the basin. Wastes and gluttony , I tell you, as far as the eye can see, and what can be seen is not much, for there lies a wall of brown smog o’er the land. Even the air is not fit to breathe! I see them all the time in my area (I'm assuming you remember where I live). I saw the Supra, sorry Z4 going to a brewery around the corner from my shop a while ago. They like to frequent the 33 for handling runs too, and I've heard they can drive like assholes.

Yeah and I got to work and have fun and get something long term on my CV. Also learned a fuck ton about wrenching and car manufacturing from the dealer side anyway which gives you a lot of info. So I am grateful to have done what I have done so far.
