I heart the cabinetry here

Looks spendy. I can’t help but be disappointed that the entire cabinet facade isn’t cut f rom one massive slab, but I’m guessing the logistics of that—to say nothing of the cost—would make that pretty difficult.

It’s cool, but those doors with the grain running the opposite direction as  the drawers would make me mental. And that kneewall kinda irks me too.

For reasons I don’t understand, woodgrain patterns almost always run horizontal on drawers and vertical on doors. I suspect it’s a yield thing.

Not at all a fan of the stripiness of the island.

That short wall in the last pic. Maybe it’s the base for a counter/bar? It has the grain running up and down, which is fine, but to my eye it clashes with the horizontal look of the large drawers.

I love the look, I just would have picked a direction and run with it.

Are they solid wood, or do the drawers and doors have veneers? If they are veneers, they could have made it look like one large slab (or at least a couple large slabs) by end matching and book matching (like that vertical wall in the last pic) . Would make for a pretty striking and expensive set of cabinets.

I think it looks great, once the wood is treated the vertical and horizontal grain differences will not be quite as apparent. Curious to see what they use for counter tops, I’m guessing medium color granite. The floor looks to be coated concrete?

I would imagine that is it. It may have something to do with how the wood moves too. Those door panels are likely set loose in the frame so they can move around without checking and cracking.

Seems like if you are going through the trouble of matching the grain horizontally you wouldn't be overly concerned about cost, but I have no idea.

Here is a quote from Fine Woodworking magazine because I am off work today and real good at Google...

“ To best minimize seasonal wood movement, you would want the grain running parallel to the longest dimension of the panel. That orientation results in the least amount of cross grain to shrink and swell.”

I think any finish that isn’t paint will make the grain differences stand out like a wedding dick.

It's a shame too, because those drawer fronts are gorgeous.

I’m excited to see the finished product.

Yes, concrete floors. I believe the countertops will all be concrete pours as well, and we’ll be doing tile back splashes.

Agreed , I was hoping t hat gets covered up, but I’m guessing they'll just put the countertop on and leave the empty space for l eg room?

Stripy and nearly symmetric. Seems to really fly in the face of the randomness and beauty of wood.

I have a real redneck mechanic buddy who used to build race car engines and boat race engines. Everything stands out like a wedding dick and everything is referred to as a “bitch.” He’ll say wonderful things like “I put new plug wires onto her and that bitch woke right up." It's fun to listen to.

Looks like solid wood. I hope to eventually build some cabinets like this, end matched and book matched. I really dig the natural look

Likely there will be chairs lined up here at the bar, blocking it some.

What is that, cherry? That’s what it looks like to me anyway.

I like the rather bold statement of contrasting wood grain color.

Why do the doors have cutouts? This should all be flat.

It would be freaking amazing if it was out of a single continuous piece of wood, too.

If my wife will allow it, I’ll definitely do it.

Aside from laziness, t here’s no reason that you can’t make it from a single sheet of wood, considering it’s probably almost all cut out with robotic cutters anyhow.
