My mate’s got a sweet little Civic, nothing too special about it, just fundamentally a great daily. Unfortunately, he’s something like the ninth owner and this poor little thing has been rather abused over the years. The shoddy immobilizer was stopping the car from starting, so I decided to jump in and see what could be done.

A pretty rough and ready install, but they did use Nitto brand electrical tape, so that’s something. First time I’ve seen spade connectors used like this.

After wasting an ton of time because I confused the door lock relays with the cutoff relays, I eventually got the car up and running in 3 and a half hours. In the end, a pretty slow effort but at the end of the day, old mate’s got his car back and he’s able to drive to work again.

Reminds me of the 03 Sentra Spec V we had for a stint ( it had been rode hard/put away wet in the 48k it had lived, ended up being an epic shitcan, story for another day ) . The aftermarket alarm automatically locked the doors after 10 mins, but if you were out of range, the remote wouldn’t read it locked, so you’d be locked out.

After breaking into it 2-3 times, then listening to the alarm as I tried to disconnect the battery to reset it, I finally snapped one day.

I didn’t disconnect the battery, I just started ripping wires out of the alarm until it stopped making noise. Then I tore the dash apart and ripped everything out from there, I left the pieces and tangle of wiring hanging there as I drove it back to the dealership with only 3rd gear.

Oh the surprise on their face when they went to pull it around back and there was a torn apart dash, tangled mess of wiring, a ripped out center console, and shift cables hanging out.
