Using low power Bluetooth (seriously, 6 year lifespan on that thing) to talk to Waze users in tunnels absent of GPS signal to improve user notification of congestion and such . We installed 42 of them tonight, over the span of a mile long tunnel . I have a headache from the 3m 94 primer.
Ii f orgot where this post was going. So fat cat on a watermelon for your time

Location technology is amazing. We can now use GPS, cell towers, wifi, and now bluetooth to get a rough position for most cell phones. It can even be done without the user’s consent which is the really scary part. If you don’t want to be tracked in the future, you’ll have to make sure your phone is powered down. Even that won’t keep you from being tracked by all the cameras being installed everywhere. We are slowly turning our nation into a surveillance state and we are doing it willingly.

I couldn’t figure out how Google Maps gives you real-time busyness levels for many stores and even the DMV office. My friend told me Google tracks everyone’s cell phones to get that data. Amazing, clever, scary.
nFamousCJ is selling us out.

Companies can even track you in the store, to see how long you are standing in front of a particular display for example.
This stuff is a bit creepy, but ultimately I think most of it is good, though it would be nice if there were retention limits or something.

I drove up the coast and we were nowhere near anything with Maps, no service and it was still updating our trip.

That's how I view it. Invasive and more than a bit creepy, but with some serious benefits

Just wait until augmented reality becomes common. I read a short story that imagined where we might go. Imagine all of the labels in a store being plain white with a QR code. With AR, the labels would be customized to appeal to you - color, language, units of measure, etc. would all be customized to your preference. I might see a completely different label, even though the product in the package is the same. Now imagine a hacker getting in and messing with your world view....

Which is good for them. What I really want out of AR shopping is easy access to reviews. I’ve been trained by Am azon that there should be reviews right there, that I feel like there should be a little LCD below each product where I can read through reviews.
