I always liked the Direzza ZII/III *specs. I think they’re better in the wet than the RE-71s... Currently I am without a *real* sports car though, and the Kona is making surpr isingly good use of some General G-Max As-05s.

Especially if there is a racetrack in between the two.

I may put these on my Miata next time it needs tires. We don’t exactly get “weather”.

The Miata gets those next year, unless there's a better autocross tire I haven't heard of. Those pos nittos on there now do nothing but look good

My ZII’s were phenomenal in the wet, much better than the re- 71r.

Have you tried the ZIII  yet?

Look into star specs. 95% of the grip, muuuuch better wet performance and they last a good 30% longer. At least

Um, I don’t know if you are being sarcastic, but I plead with you, DON’T DO IT! I put a brand new set of bf Goodrich scorcher TA’s on my daily a few years ago. Spent a metric shit tonne on them.

Threadbare in less than 3 months.

The grip was incredible, and I very much enjoyed them, but track tires are not at all worth it on the street. And terrible in the rain. But boy howdy could I stop! And no matter how hard I tried, I never once heard them squeal. Not a chirp, peep, or holler. Simply too much tire for daily duty, and they don’t last.

Unless you have f-u money. Then do it. And it could be argued it's a safety thing, what with the ability to go from 100 to zero in the span of a crosswalk.

I have not tried the ZIIIs, but I had three sets of ZIIs, terrific tire. Way better in the wet and cold than any ultra-high-performance summer has a right to be.

They did great as an honest-to-God 4 season PNW tire. Handled the occasional sub- 3 0° temps and still gripped hard the following summer. I’m on the fence about buying ZIII’ s and going back to canyon carver mode, or buying some nokian winter tires to use as year-round offroad-ready tires...

Star Specs if you want to not have to spend money on tires every season (or two sets in a single season if you autocross enough!) but RE-71Rs if you want to level the playing field as most of the top ES drivers will be running them.

I liked the ZII as well, was a pretty good daily/track tire for me. I didnt get too many miles out of them which is to be expected out of any 200TW though. Never drove in rain because socal lol. I found they got a bit greasy when it got hot out on track but overall pretty decent. I enjoyed shaving 10 seconds off of my laptime switching to a real track tire though!

I had to (had to, I promise) change both sway bars and new coilovers, so I'm getting killed in STR this year. So on one hand, who cares how far back I am. On the other, I do want a decent assessment of myself and not wonder how much I'm leaving out there.

I still have RE-11's on the vette, I thought I’d wear them out faster but I guess I need to drive it more.

I always liked the Direzza ZII/III *specs.

The ZIII aren’t Star Specs.  The ZII were.  As of yet, there doesn’t seem to be any indication that Dunlop will make a Star Spec version of the ZIII.
