Usually the ferries are far and away the largest vessels that come to call in our rinky-dink little port but R/V Thomas G Thompson dwarfs even the largest of those. She’s operated by University of Washington, they must be collaborating with WHOI on some sort of research excursion.

Yeah, that looks a tad bigger than the Island Queen to my eyes.
Woods Hole’s Atlantis is the same class of ship so it does seem a bit strange to bring a whip from Washington all the way out.

She’s about 50' longer than most of t he ferries and 20' longer than the largest.
The WHOI and NOAA s hips are usually gone most of the summer, after those and the ferries the largest boats are a few 110' cutters at the C oast G aurd station here.
