I am on my way home from work and approaching a 4 way stop sign. Car in front of me goes, car to my left goes, and then it’s my turn. Except a second car o n the left decides that it’s their turn to go even though I was stopped at the intersection when the guy in front of him went through. So I pull out in front of him, beeped my horn, and turn right. I also may have indicated with my hand that he’s number 1. The guy then follows me for about a half mile, screaming and giving me the finger. Like how hard is it to understand how stop signs work?

I think that at least here in spain it’s because it’s written in english rather than spanish.
That, or everyone is a buffoon behind the wheel.

We are people. Really important. We do not ‘take turns’.
This also explains why we have roundabouts...

I stopped giving the finger salute when some guy assaulted me and tried to pull my out of the van I was driving. It’s not worth it.

Stop first, go first. Pretty simple stuff. If he can’t handle that, then that guy shouldn’t be driving.
Or cycling .

In our area we have a large number of folks recently hired from off shore by the tech industry. Absolutely nothing against them, but we basically have a huge population that drive like 16 year olds just because they don’t have any experience. There are a series of three 4way stops I drive thought every day and I hardly ever make it through them without somebody simply not knowing how they work.... That “stop, then immediately go regardless of everybody else, ” is fairly common, so is the “you go, no you go, no you go, no you go, no you go, no you go....”

I kinda hate it when peeps break the rules at 4 way stops. Like don’t be fucking charitable. Just follow the rules
I hate getting waived through when it isn’t my turn.
Some lady tried to make me go out of turn the other day and another car came to the intersection and stopped. They sat there perplexed. I refused to go. The idiot lady is waiving at me but not even noticing the other car that came up.
It was a mess. That’s how accidents happen.
Just stick to the rules!!!

I think it all averages out. This morning I was behind two people who BOTH stopped for an invisible stop sign.

For the same reason some people* don’t understand that the shape of a Stop sign is an octogon.
*Senior citizens excluded — it’s a big ask for them to catch someone in their peripheral vision at the last second.

Around here it's 2 way stops that people struggle with. The prevailing thought seems to be that if you're turning right you have the right of way over the guy across the street regardless of who stopped when.

Surprising you found someone who actually went when it was their turn (or before their turn as in your case) . Usually the opposite happens where people just dont go when it is clearly their turn. It is supposed to work that whoever shows up first gets to go. Then you just alternate on repeat. Ideally there is the whole “give right of way” thing for when you show up at the same time, but nobody is going to follow that. Just ALWAYS ensure you do not show up at the same time. I generally try to read the cars approaching and either beat them to the stop or go slow and make sure they beat me there. I hate when there is a good second or two between arrival and people still dont get that it is their turn. Even worse is if they wave me on. I will just take their wave (angrily) because I dont feel like sitting there refusing the wave and delaying me forever. Its safer to just go and cut them off at that point.

Once someone has waved, you might as well just follow it at that point. There is no fixing that by ignoring it. It is stupid to wave in the first place but once it has already taken place, you are best off just going. Solves the communication problem for that moment but yeah those are times that I wish for a digital sign to display “fuck off, follow the rules”

Oh of course, I think I worded that wrong. I meant it was just surprising to see people be aggressive at stop signs. Usually you get the people being passive idiots just sitting there not taking their turn. I dont often see the over-agressive go out of turn problem.

100% The only thing worse than someone waving for you to go out of turn is when two people are waving at each other. It's like two people holding a door open for each other. Somebody just go!

That’s right, the white border indicates that it’s only a stop sign under Admiralty Law, so if you
spell your name
with random capitalization and punctuation marks it doesn’t apply to you, you can just drive past
through without interruption. If you explain this very carefully to the policeman who pulls you over, he’s sure to let you go with a warning.

100% agree. I had a guy rip open my passenger door (lesson learned that my new-to-me car doesn’t have auto locks) and repeatedly slam it shut until the window broke. Cop says Colorado law says giving the finger is an invitation to fight, so nothing else happened. It’s not worth it.

Ah yes, idiots and stop signs, the gift that keeps on giving. I had a good rant a few years ago when a huge group of asshole squids decided that they didn’t need to stop for a stop sign even though they were turning across traffic on to a main road that didn’t have a stop sign.
