Oh, no, they Volvofied the center stack!

That may sound minor, but it was a dealbreaker for me on newer Volvos, so I’m not thrilled. I was really holding out on some improvements here so I could reconsider the Outback. Sounds like they checked all my boxes, but screwed the pooch on that one. IMHO, of course. Some people LOVE having HVAC and everything else on a screen, but I’m just not there. Too distracting, too little tactile feedback, and too much glare.

They have 2 different processors for the climate control and the rest of the media/navigation software. So what I’ve read is you wont have to wait for it to get ready before you can turn on the seat heater/fan etc.

To be fair, I’m the kind of person who is annoyed by having to push a button to change the temp (vs a dial). There are just so many ergonomic things that are objectively superior, but we ignore them and change things in the name of being different.

Glad to hear they thought this through, but I’m still never thrilled about a single point of failure (screen) that controls so much.

We can’t even build a cell phone that lasts a few years, but we keep accepting tablets to replace all functions in cars... whatcouldgowrong.png

Kind of want to like, but these are such a stereotypical normcore thing in Seattle that it can be tough.

Say, you’re about 6'2" right? I’ve tried talking my brother in getting a Subie* since anything 2010 and newer we can fit comfortably in.  Of course, he would prefer something more rugged like a Jeep or FJ, and he's relying on friends with auction licenses to help him out.

There was someone on here who was like 6'8" who bought an Outback because it fit him well.

Definitely an Outback and not a Forrester, right?

For that matter, I wonder if he would fit in a Tribeca since 2014 was the last model year?

Is it bad that at a first glance (and to be honest, at a second glance as well), I can’t even tell this is an all-new model?

I’m 6'1" and fit fine in my wife’s ‘17 Outback, as the front seats are on the floor and I can stretch out my legs. Headroom is not an issue.

However, my wife never liked that on-the-floor seating position (and our aging parents were struggling with car-like entry to the rear seat) , so this weekend we swapped to a ‘19 Forester. The front seats are 2" off the floor, making a m ore upright, SUV-like seating position. I fit fine in it as well.

Nope, not a problem for the tens of thousands of people who buy this.

Well, I had a 2008 and 2010 Outback , I had 2x 2016 Forester XTs, I have 2x 2017 WRXs, I have 3 dogs, we make plenty... I should be the target market, and I have a problem with this being more or less the same. The new XT sounds like exactly what my wife would love, but I think we are done with Subaru after all the recent recall news and the issues we had with the FA engines in our WRX’s.

I think Car and Driver said it best

“Subaru’s model overhauls are all about incrementalism. It makes sense. People hate change, and Subaru loves giving its people what they want. The Outback is Subaru’s best-selling model, and the new one is better than the old one. It’s now more spacious in the back seat, more powerful, and has more modern features. It doesn’t feel like a revelation, but it doesn’t need to. If there’s a ceiling to the demand for Subarus, we haven’t found it yet. So we can’t blame the company for building profitable, consistent products, even if they are a little boring. And if a sea change comes, Subaru will be ready for it. It’s probably already running a study”

Im 100% in....except for the fact that the Subaru CVT has been shown to be completely unsuited for Subi life and their engines have been none-too reliable either.  This with the older fully active AWD and 8 speed planetary auto would have been a better choice.

Now it’s time to wait for a Touring  one with structural damage to appear at Off Lease Only in 2023. Subaru dealers refuse to give good deals.
