Literally. Had a few spare minutes last night so I vac uumed up all the loose dirt rust out of the trunk and driver’s front floor of the Esprit. Before:

Hey, this is for a 301 Turbo 4bbl. I wonder why it, and a air pump (not to mention a spare fan, dist, and alt) were in there... but its worth a few bucks if I can clean it up.

Kinja'd!!!

I wanted to get all the loose rust, carpet, and insulation cleaned up before I start pulling the rest of the interior out, not to mention before I try to get the engine fired up this weekend maybe.

Question though, does this seatbelt look safe?

Kinja'd!!!

j/k being held on by carpet lol

Kinja'd!!!

Surprisingly, even though there’s 80% NO FLOOR, some spare change was found down there.

Kinja'd!!!

This thing has TITANIC level rust. The subframe, the THICKEST METAL on the car is rotten through and splitting apart. I don’t know how its held together this long. I just hope it survives the de-part-ening.

The interesting bit will be getting rid of the carcass when you’re finished.

Then again you can probably just pull it apart by hand and haul it to the scrappie in trash bags.

I thought for sure that introducing the vacuum to that floor would have resulted in something more like

Hell, one good rainstorm should have most of it flowing into the storm drain...

Seeing your title, I was worried that it was not a vacuum pun, but a reaction to the car breaking in half when you were working on it...

Don’t let David Tracy see this. You might convert him from Jeeps to Firebirds.

Salvaging it for its many above-floor usable parts. Mostly to sell on to others in need, some for my own Trans Am project that’s lacking a few bits and bobs.

Yeah I’d definitely recommend a tetanus booster before getting within 20 feet of this thing.  And wear some really good goggles - rust and eyeballs are a bad mix.

The Titanic would like a word with you. Certainly it’s in better shape than this car...thingy!

Can we build cars out of carpet, then? It clearly holds up better than steel.
