My wheel/tire fitment is tighter than expected

I guess there’s a reason BMW doesn’t put wheels wider than 7.5” and tires wider than 225s on the front of the non-M 1 series. No corresponding damage to the inside lip of the wheel so my 235s seem to be contacting the strut tube under hard cornering. Oops.

I have some 3mm spacer laying around somewhere, maybe I’ll put them on.

It will clearance itself eventually... you may not have a shock left afterwards though...

You don’t need wide-ass tires a non-M BMW

I fucking HATE the big wheels and no-profile tires on cars that don’t need ‘em

Also, some wheels of a given size will rub/have less clearance than other wheels of the same size on some cars. It is possible a different wheel even of the same size would give you no problems. Have you used Tire Rack’s wheel fitter? What do they say can fit your car?

And what is the stock size?

Had 225s on the front of my 3, put 245s on and the change is very noticeable.

Eh, it’s just paint, purely superficial damage - t he wheel isn’t contacting, only the tire.

Luckily I’m changing the struts right now anyway so I’ll just use the spacer going forward.

You’re correct, I don’t need wide tires, but I do what I want, not what I need with this car. I wanted the widest square tire setup I could fit (stock is staggered 225 front, 245 rear).

The wheel is not the issue, only the tire is contacting the strut, and only occasionally. I would’ve heard it if it happened all the tire and the inside of the tire would show visible wear, which it doesn’t.

This will be easily addressed with a small spacer going forward.

I’ve found this kit before and actually considered it. :)

It’s a bit excessive for my needs and doesn’t match the rear, which I don’t want to modify, IMO. I’d want them to do a more subtle version ~1-1.5” wider than stock, that would have me throwing my wallet at them.

Yeah, I think it looks good completed and a 285 square would absolutely stick.

damn 225 comes stock but it can’ t fit 235? :(

Maybe the offset is too high? Lower offset would place it farther from the strut

225 is the widest that’s came with stock, on Canadian sport package cars like mine . Most other trims had 205s or 215s up front.

The offset is very close a 3 mm spacer will help but much more and fender clearance becomes an issue. The 1 series is quite limited in front tire fitment.

I just think the front looks wider than the rear, which I’m not a fan of. 285 square would be amazing but I’m not looking to spend that much on tires here, and it would be a bit pointless with <250hp. :)

The plan is to put in Ohlins R&T suspension next year which will allow me to put in a good amount of front camber and fit 245s square for autoX. I’ll stick to my 235s for daily use.
