The FP article about Nissan being in the shitter had me looking at Nissan cars and trucks.
You can still get a brand new 370z which I’m assuming is the same as it was 10 years ago for almost FIFTY THOUSAND USA DOLLARS. You can even get it in this color scheme that looks just awful on this car. It does however look cool on that concept thingy that was floating around a few months ago.
Why would you ever get a dumb new Supra or C8 when you could have the above for a few thousand less?

Well there’s at least precedent for that livery...

Looking them up on Autotrader is always fun. Like dealers still advertising 2017 Nismo for damn near 50 grand, like you said.
I’d rather have a more modern Mustang, Camaro, or whatever before one of those.

Ah, the proverbial automotive dinosaur! Unless you need a manual, you can get a more spacious modern 400HP turbo V6 coupe for around the same money from the same parent company

or, you know any muscle/pony car or a base Supra like you said.

Nissan can make good stuff. The new Altima and the Rogue are nice cars, and the new Versa (yes) looks promising. They focus on their volume models at the expense of the rest of the lineup. I sat in a Murano, a nice car in 2015, and the Rogue is better than it in everything. It’s sad. And then there’s cars like the Z, which my local dealer (100+ Rogues) only had one of that you know Nissan doesn’t care about.
This could be said for companies like Toyota, too, but as the 4Runner shows, people will buy anything with a Toyota logo.

I honestly felt that way when the BRZ twins were released

Nissans are decent when you sit in them in the showroom. The problem is they age horribly and are basically worthless after 5 years.

Not that the Z where lightweight cars but they felt nimble and gave American muscle a run for their money
Now it’s just a big olf that’s older than middle schoolers

But the 4Runner at least has durability, capability, and reliability on its side; the Murano ain’t any of those so it’s a bit more than just the Toyota name keeping it afloat.

That’s where Toyota wins. They can at least say “hey, we’re reliable” to back up their mediocre cars. If people had some of those 2013 Pathfinders and Altimas, they’d never wanna go back to Nissan. My sister’s old 2008
Rogue was pretty reliable
, but there was still a TCM replacement at 66K miles. My RAV4 has 88K miles and hasn’t needed any transmission work.

The Murano Platinum was super nice in 2015, and it could be nice used. New, the cheaper Rogue is a million times better than it. That’s why so many more Rogues are sold than Muranos.
“Worthless” could be good for a used buyer. Just not new. If you’re keeping a car for 10+ years, it doesn’t really matter anyways.

They know their customer base. Regular cars at a better price than the competition.
