They look good on almost anything Japanese and some others. They’re super light and reasonably priced. However, they always look like they’re missing something in the middle of the wheel, particularly from a distance. Maybe it is because cars with them are so often actually missing center-caps, or have red/blue/green/purple hardware? I always think, “Man those wheels look awesome on that car, but I don’t really like the look of the wheels?”
Maybe it’s the hard edged circle in the middle. I’m not a fan of it on the Apex wheels which are a slight variation of my favorite wheels for pretty much any German car.

This is a solid take.

I think it is the circle on the inside.

Personally, I never really cared for them.

If you show me the wheel on a rack or next to others I don’t like em. However I do like them on some cars...while still kind of not liking them.

You’re right, RPF1s do need the centre caps.
Apex wheels are awesome though, fite me.

Like you said, they seem to be missing something. I don’t like them on the shelf, I don’t like them on cars. They might be light and affordable , but they don’t do it for me. It’s a matter of tastes, and that’s why they’re so many different options out there for things; not everyone’s tastes are the same.

Agree with your take on wheels that have a smooth hub, rather than a recessed hub.
Recessed hub wheels always seem like they should have a full cover over the lugs, or the center blacked out like the hubs on C4 Corvette Turbines.
And obligatory C8 hype content... YES, I do want to see a modernized 20", staggered, slightly concave version of this wheel on the new C8.

They would benefit from a large center cap to cover the hardware, like mine have:

I agree. Any b igger than that and there's too much negative space. Makes them look spindly.

Oh they are awesome and super fricken light. I’m sure that circle in the middle is a structural thing, it just throws off the look a little for me.

Exactly. Also hell ya 20" salad shooters?

Yep, they just look like they are all missing exactly that.

with slightly re-tapered vanes, yes. Salad shooters always looked a little odd to me with the thin part of the vane at the edge of the disc , like it might crack and break... but I am sure they are strong.

You BMW guys and your Apex wheels (secretly wishes Apex made wheels for more bolt patterns and offsets).
Edit: when did they start making so many bolt patterns and offsets? That's awesome

Rotiform CCV may do the trick... especially if they would do a custom black with only the disk, outer spokes and rim machine polished, with the windows, inner spokes and hub left black.
The new VAN wheel style is cool, too, although perhaps not rose gold, unless you’re putting them on the De Tomaso P72.

When someone mentions 80's cars the first image my brain sees is a set of salad shooters on a gold 84' vette

I have no idea! I was getting ready to agree with you on them needing more fitments.

Those are pretty iconic. The early C4 Turbines, as well as late C3 slotted mags, Pontiac Bowling ball turbine covers, (KITT from Knight Rider), and even Pontiac cast snowflake style wheels all scream late 70's through mid-80s... even getting into convex disc wheels like Porsche 928/944, and the 84-86 Mustang SVO.
I really wish someone would bring back a modernized Manaray Turbina S, which looks a lot like the Corvette turbines, and the Rotiform CCV, but maybe just a little more interesting in the details. It was kind of that 80s style brought into the 90s era import tuner scene.
Torq-Thrusts, Cragars, Keystones, and Western turbines (General Lee and A-Team Van) all seem like late 60s to late-70s style to me, although they were commonly used well into the 80s and beyond...
Cragars and Torq-thrust wheels are even still replicated on the 2019 Bullitt Mustang, and various aftermarket modern fitments... but I hesitate to put 60's style wheels on a modern car, even if the modern car is retro-styled.
I’m just glad the billet wheel fad from the late 80s and 90s is over, although I’ll begrudgingly admit that there were one or two styles I didn’t mind... they would look horribly dated today.

I only just understood that you were referring to the circular recess around the lugs for both wheels, not the centre bore hole. (Derp). I guess it just hasn’t stood out to me so much visually so it’s never bothered me. Now I won’t be able to un-see it; damn you.

Sorry about that. I had someone ruin one of my favorite Wu-Tang songs by pointing out something repetitive that I had never heard before. I think that was like 10 years ago, I still remember who did it and the face she made when describing it lol.
