Petrol powered but super efficient. 3 litres per 100km. Very neat. Seen in Copenhagen.

No. 3L version is super efficient but it’s
powered by diesel. It’s sad that it didn’t get super efficient
petrol sister.

Being a Canadian, my first thought was ‘Wow, why would they need to put a 3L anything in a Polo...isn’t that overkill
?’
:P

Growing up in denmark and seeing these around i just don’t get the hype around them. The gearboxes can be nightmares when the shifting mechanics disagree with the box internals, the rear aluminium drum brakes warp if you aren’t gentler than an old lady, and they’re... tiny eco boxes, but i guess it’s like an early concept at what evolved into the VW Up/similar ecoboxes.

We got it as the VW Lupo and SEAT Arosa here.

It was mostly just Piech era VW doing what it did best, an engineering exercise to show off what can be done. There are quite a few of these 3L still around interestingly enough.

Aluminum drum brakes, wow that was a dumb decision, to approve
those for
production.

Surprisingly didn’t take the aftermarket long to make parts available for steel retrofits...

Correct. The TDI badge is a clear hint :)

It had a funny grill. Definitely looked like an ev or hypermiler

There seems to be a lot of that sort of inbreeding with the cheaper cars. Like the Mitsubishi imiev.
