I convinced my parents to trade their old CUV for a leftover new 2018 TourX. They got a smoking good deal and I have to say this is a lot of car for the money. They are in their 70s and very active - they think this thing is very sleek and sportscar like. I don’t think I’d go that far, but I agree it looks pretty good.

Kinja'd!!!

I think these are greatly underrated in the market. I like it so much i could see buying one myself someday. I can only hope maybe they would make a TourX GS version! I think it much more likely this model will be canceled all too soon though. Given the separation of Opel from GM it seems like it’s the only path. Too bad, because I really like the idea of a German designed and built semi-sport wagon sold under a value American brand.

Nice! What was the old CUV?

It is nice, I was doing Toyota at the auto show this past year and I always go walk around the day before opening after all the cars are delivered and placed. I went straight to this. I would love to pick a color combo on one of these. I ha ve been thinking about finding a TS X wagon for my DD.  My neighbor has a sedan and it looks super comfy and they get good mileage.

Buick would cringe at your characterization as a “value brand”

But I agree with you. As long as it’s in the Avenir trim, I love it.

Yeah, maybe I should rephrase that. Buick is a ‘near-luxury’ brand but the TourX compared to a German branded euro wagon is a value model. This car, as a leftover new 2018, was under $30k. I actually think they have them priced competitively at MSRP.

It was a GMC Terrain. It worked well for them but the TourX is much much more car.

Buick calls themselves attainable luxury. Or near luxury like Acura, Infiniti...

Unfortunately, because it comes from Opel, Buick does not offer the Avenir trim in the TourX.

I wish they’d sell the regular not-Outbacktified wagon here, but I realize the US market doesn’t buy the things and even more traditionally wagon-oriented brands are getting out of the market . Subaru ditched the regular Legacy wagon years ago, Audi only sells the Allroad, VW had the base non-Alltrack Golf Sportwagen but now they’re dropping the Sportwagen entirely, and Volvo makes you special order the non-Cross Country versions of their wagons. Oh well.

I bought an ‘18 in December. $28k, sticker $37k. A really nice, quick, comfortable and quiet all-arounder and  screaming deal for the money for what you get.

Yeah, everybody wants a tall vehicle now. I suggested the TourX to my wife and she said nope, it looks too low and long. She said it reminds her of the old station wagons from the 70s and she doesn’t want that. Interestingly, I asked my 18 year old daughter what she thought of the TourX (thinking she might appreciate the design) and she said it looked like a regular car that had been flattened. She’s grown up around tall boxy SUVs/CUVs which to her are “regular cars.” She doesn’t have any of the old wagon memories like my wife, but she doesn’t like the TourX because it looks too flat, low, and different than a regular car . Fun ny that my parents in their 70s think it looks great, and I think it looks great because I’m a car guy and I appreciate the design. My 16 year old son also likes it, as it looks more sporty and different than the mass of SUVs everywhere.

No mat ter, as t he TourX seems to be destined for a short life in the US. Too bad though - I really like the car and think a lot of other people would too if they got a chance to drive one.

Y eah, but the Essence loaded out with all the options seems pretty close. Avenir trim might give better interior materials though. It would be nice if they offered it.

The Regal wagons are really cool, if they made a GS variant with the V6 I’d seriously consider trading  in my Volvo for one....from what I’ve read the 4 banger doesn't offer much in the way of an enthusiastic driving experience

So buy one, drive it until the warranty expires then chip it. A soft chip, like stage 1 , should get you the hp and torque of the GS. If you like add GS away bars as well.

I almost convinced my friend to buy one, I think they look good and are probably a pretty good value.

( In the disappointment of disappointments, he got a honda clarity instead, and borrows his mom’s subaru outback seemingly weekly to haul something that needs wagon-room to move.)

TLX is nice too! I will say the TourX is likely a big step forward with advanced tech. If the TourX is within your budget range I suggest taking a look for comparison. There are some serious discounts and dealers might  have strong trade allowances. Wagons are hard to find!

That’s the important thing.  My experience touching the inside of current Buicks is that the standard trim dash materials feel too rubbery and Chevy-like.  The Avenir stuff feel more premium and befitting the image Buick wants to present.

I was super pumped for these until I drove one.

I was appalled by the harsh ride, cheap feeling interior, confused transmission, and obnoxious road noise. We were seriously considering one until we actually got some seat time in them, we were seriously turned off.

Hopefully your parents are happy with it, we were left severely disappointed. Awesome idea, terrible execution.

That matches my wagon. I picked one up at the very end of 2018. I really like it. The trans doesn’t know what to do when you are doing some spirited driving on mountain roads but it will eat up mile like nobodie s business.

Last year when we were buying I tried to get my wife to look at a TourX and she wouldn’t even consider it. She’s always had SUV/CUVs (XJ Cherokee, then Lexus RX330) so she’s used to sitting up high.

We ended up with a 2018 Terrain Denali which we both love, it’s very different from the previous generations of Terrain. Though as much as I like it, I kind of wish we’d bought the TourX.

I hear ya! My wife just said nope. My parents previous Terrain was a 1st gen and it did well for them for a number of years but the TourX is a lot more car. Now the problem is all the tech in the car they dont know how to use! Funny but the old timers want to turn all the extras off as soon as they can figure out how.

The new Terrains looks good! I like them.

It fits my needs of a sporty 4-door for under $38k. I wish it had paddle shifters and after-market support. Otherwise it’s super comfortable and fun to drive. The 310hp mated to the 9-speed transmission results in a pretty quick car. Surprises a lot of people.  The GS mode tightens up the soft steering and changes the shift points. I’ve considered autocrossing it just haven’t had the time nor desire to destroy tires.  Another thing I like is that there are none around.  So my car looks pretty unique.  I get comments about it all the time.

I think I had a rock in a rotor but that is gone. No squeak s or rattles. Only about 6K now but I think it is pretty well screwed together.

I don’t know, but I like the feature. It only takes a second to fire up and go. Plus slightly better mileage. If you need to shoot a gap, you can let off the brake to fire the engine and get back on the brake. The car won’t shutoff the second time on the brake.
