Correct me if I’m wrong but...
the C8 Corvette is pretty much only ever going to be available in North America. The fact that GM has no European presence nor will the price cachet exist in Arabian markets and the less said about Chinese prospects that don’t have a Buick badge...and then there’s the minor lack of RHD....
The value against the European competition is inescapable and yet...if it can only ever work in one direction...why does this matter?

They should sell a Buick badge engineered version in China and Oz as the XP-300.

Corvettes are available in Europe. At least in the UK, I know for sure. They’ve never sold in large numbers over there for a few reasons.
Lack of refinement/sophistication , perceived or otherwise.
Europeans lack the emotional attachment to the Corvette brand that many Americans (especially older generations and/or red states) have .
Corvettes are bigger than Porsches and other European sports cars, and lots of European cities and back roads have much narrower roads than the wide-open spaces in much of the US .
Corvette prices in Europe are relatively higher over there.

Genius personified. But tariffs and the lack of RHD will likely kneecap such expansionism...

Why would the C8 be restricted to NA when the C7,6 and 5 weren’t? Why does a sub 6 -figure sports car need a ‘price cachet’? Why would the chinese refuse to buy a chevy when they already buy Dodges, Teslas and Fords?

Instead of a Pontiac Ferriero, now we have the Chevrolet Corntache.

GM has no presence in Europe anymore . C7 only comes to RHD markets after expensive local conversion. #porscheischeaper

Exactly...and now GM doesn’t have any dealers in Europe at all. Cof fin is nailed...

Maybe I’m misreading your post but they specifically said the C8 WILL be available in RHD. A first for the Vette

At the reveal they said it would be available in RHD. I assume they will try selling it in Australia through Holden dealers. Who knows how they will distribute in the U.K. and Japan but I’m guessing they have some sort of plan if they are going to be making RHD cars.

It was stated that the C8 will be available in right hand drive.
As for this:
The value against the European competition is inescapable and yet...if it can only ever work in one direction...why does this matter?
My guess: Shipping costs.
Euro cars are expensive over here, and the base US versions are often more luxurious than the base home market versions to help justify the extra cost.
But US cars in europe have the extra shipping and R&D costs associated with selling in a new market, but they’re built with interiors that are acceptable for the price in the US, and then they often have to pay extra taxes because of the engine size.
Granted, those added costs are still a lot less than a european super car, but there are a lot of other options available when you get in that price range. Plus, most of those other options are better suited for european roads and cities.

Size is another old perception that’s not really true anymore as the Corvette has held fairly steady and others have grown. The C7 has basically the same footprint as a 911. An inch wider but an inch shorter.

Available...(okay I was wrong about the lack of RHD)...but available doesn’t mean accessible so it’s not very meaningful.
And this is a shit hot post so facts can take a hike!!!! Please?

Turns out it IS a confirmed starter here in Oz but with a pricetag likely we ll north of 100 grand ( same as locally converted C7) ....deep into Euro territory so not much volume there .

Technically you’re right but that’s not the full story. The narrow-body C7 is an inch wider than the wide-body 991.
C7 (narrow) - 73.9"
C7 (wide) - 77.4"
718 - 70.9"
991 (narrow) - 71.2"
991 (wide) - 72.9"

What’s the normal markup on US made cars in Australia?
Pricing comparable to US/Canada, or is there a big bump?

The new Corvette is great, but the car I really want to see from GM is a new SS sedan with all the good stuff from the current Camaro SS for US & Aussie markets.

No developed country sells comparable new cars at as low a price point (out the door) as Canada and the U.S., I’m pretty sure.

Lots... mostly because they have to be locally converted to RHD.
However, Ford and BMW both bring in US made cars like Mustang and X’s that are competitively priced and successful sellers.

I know there are no more Holdens. This would be on the ATS chassis, but with a V8 and a manual. A boy can dream...
