I see a predictable formula of rehashing memories to print money without any of the charm of the original. Im looking forward for this era in filmmaking to come to an end.

Watched the original this weekend. It’s a bit better if you speed up through the slow bits but it holds up. Compared to the original flight footage recycled over and over in the first one, this looks spectacular.

This one better have Highway To The Danger Zone
Why wouldn’t it? There’s a Tomcat, a goose-ish piano scene, and him riding a motorcycle without a helmet near the flight line in a two minute trailer - why wouldn’t they add it in some way to the score?
I’m just glad they addressed why it took him almost 35 years to make three grades from O3 to O6 right off the bat. That’s the question we have all been asking.
Next question. Why is a 55 year old still flying?

Now we have the glory of CGI. I wonder how much of that trailer was ones and zeroes.

Judging by all the basically shot-for-shot scenes that made their way into the trailer I’m sure Danger Zone will make an appearance for all the nostalgia money.

It’s questions like yours that will ruin Hollywood.
He’s 55 and still flying because it’s in the script. Stick with the script!

I predict that there will be a cover of Danger Zone and it will be terrible.

Annoying since the Navy is helping make this movie to bolster pilot candidates, when I went through OCS they had tons of people who wouldn’t retire so my guaranteed flight contract was not so guaranteed! Even flight navigation had no slots. So I was an intel officer.

At least in the original they were real pilots in real jets making real maneuvers.

The whole deal, with ICE in the movie as well, was TG instructors looking at the last generation of pilots to train. That was the premise, well see how much of it was left in this but I think they have to stick with that to get a good film. To get that they have to place this time period, I think, into the slight future form where we are now. As we see stylized pressure suits more akin to U2/SR planes. Since this is the last generation of fighter pilots in training, this scenario means we have to be right up against full drone service/maybe some interesting last generation (7 th or + ) super- capable and human limit reaching fighter here. (We are already at human limits but going even further makes the case for the fancy press ure suits here)
There is heavy talent in this : plus, Cruise is a plane nut, which did great things for how American Made was filmed. His flying in this TG film is the real deal at the controls. They filming the rear of a 2-seat hornet, looking like a single- seat , so you see a real pilot really pushing the issue becuase he is actually yanking and banking . Unlike TG1 where he didn’t know how to fly then and used lots of shaky close ups . We will see him working hard to make the plane his bitch, when the pilot off-camera lets him . When he isn’t filming, he immediately goes to his hangar and jumps in his Christian Eagle, Mustang, etc. He has a few toys and real skills.
