The W123 has some cracking and gaps in the door seals. I am trying rubbing black silicone into it and filling up the gap a bit. Changing them out would be a PITA I think, removing the old one is probably a mess and then the adhesive for the new ones is for sure. Maybe I can get them to last encased in silicone.

I don’t think changing them out will be bad, just really damn expensive (based on my E46 ownership).

My sister has a W123 with aging door seals, or had. I can’t remember if we replaced them yet. Seems like I have a vague memory that we replaced them, but it still leaks in heavy rain...

I found a set in Europe for $116, not too bad. In the US you go to a marked up place and they are $70 each.

Mine only leaks if I spray them with the high pressure car wash wand. And it only goes through the shrunk gap between the pieces. I’m filling in those gaps with silicone and coating the dry areas. I’ll probably coat it all in stages. I see a set from a Euro store for $116 so at some point I might have to do that if this doesn’t hold up.

I bought some of this stuff for my Honda. (Shinetsu silicone grease.) Now there may be some over the counter silicone product and I overpaid, but I heard good things about it on a Honda forum. I don’t know if a German car would tolerate having Japanese products used on it though. Yours may be too far gone for a conditioning treatment, however.

I’d be interested to see. The door seals on my Jaguar aren’t terribly deteriorated or gooey, but they let in a good bit of wind noise at high speed that I don’t care for.

Parts of them might be ok, I have some stuff for conditioning but this is more like covering the bad spots and sealing it in.

Seems to be good for coating the dry areas so far, I have to do a couple applications to fill the gap I think.
