Know anything about Ohtsu FP7000 tires?

Found this set of 4 that look new ( still have tread nubs ) for $75/each.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Kinja'd!!!

I’m not usually one to bite on off brand tires, but these seem to have good reviews overall.

Update

After OC commented on price I actually looked deeper into them. I can buy brand new for $54-65, shipped to my door, so this guy’s on crack. If I can get them for $100 for all 4 I may pick them up anyway.

Long story short, the new van has Firestone Destination LE2s on it, and while they’re in good shape, they are a very hard/noisy tire. I would like to replace them with something better.

I had this brand on my Mazda3. They were pretty quiet and comfortable.  Great deal for the price.

That strikes me as a high price for some used tires. Are they mounted and balanced for you at that price?

Alright, ya, total CP.

I can get them brand new for $65 each shipped to my door!

Guess I got jaded looking at “good” tires in this size, which basically start at $120 each.

Good catch

There's mounting and balancing to consider. Also, you can eyeball a code somewhere in the tire that'll give you their age. And I get suspicious when they show only one of the tires, no effort to show all four. Personally? At half the price I might be marginally interested.

I mount my own, cost me $20 for balancing at the local tire shop. I’d definitely check the date code and inspect all of them.

Now that I know I can get them new under $65 each, I wouldn’t give over $100 for all 4, regardless of how good they are.

I have access to a tire machine, but there's a shop with a really cool owner who'll mount and balance for $15 apiece, so I usually go to him. I am tire-obsessed, but also don't like to spend money on tires.

“no effort to show all four”

This. I never have too much trouble selling on CL because I go nuts with pics, and I’ll at least consider any offer.

I sold my wheels/tires for the in two days, while similar listings sat on there for months. I cleaned the wheels and tires, took pics of each, to pics of the tread on each, and did the penny pic for tread depth on each.

I had them on my Supra and loved them . A little slick when cold, though. Handled rain and snow just fine. Their price is way to f-ing high.

Did the same when I sold my BBS CHR from the Audi, gone in under a week . Great pics and a thorough description with a fair price usually nets a very quick sale.

I looked into them more after posting and ya, they’re asking about 3x what I’d actually pay for them.

Good to hear they’re decent tires, I may get some brand new for the new van in the fall.

Ya my local guy will balance all four for $20, otherwise he’s at $20/piece to mount/balance, so I usually just mount them myself ( I know it’s done right this way ), then let him balance them.

Yep, $54-65 brand new shipped to my door.

Knowing that, I’d offer him $100 if they are as good as they look.

Those aren’t actually an off brand tire, really. Ohtsu, Sumitomo and Falken are all the same company under Sumitomo group. Which is to say they’re quality Japanese tires (with some production taking place in Thailand). The Ohtsu brand has more commonly been used for heavy truck tires in the US, which is to say if you ran a fleet of city buses you’d be familiar with them.

For passenger car tires, they’re currently using Falken as the flagship brand, with older designs being sold under the Sumitomo and Ohtsu brands. Right now they’re selling a lot of 2 generation old designs under the Ohtsu brand through Discount Tire for a song. I picked up the all season, ultra-high performance sibling of that tire for the Mustang in the household recently . That said, those are a good high performance tire . I don’t remember the exact original Falken designation of the top of my head, but those were the reasonably priced, performance tire of choice about 5-10 years ago. If you want a reasonable performance tire, for a reasonable price that’ll last 20-30k, those will be a fine choice. We’ve run a couple of sets of those my Dad’s current 05 miata, and we pointed a whole lot of customers to those tires at the miata shop back in the day.

To me it smacks of cherry picking or of an ignorant seller, or both. When I sell something online, either Ebay or CL, by the time anyone comes to see me, I want it to be just them confirming that things are as I’ve presented them.

That does not include shipping though, which most of the $65 places do, so I’d go with like Discount Tire instead.

Good to hear.

I’ll definitely look into them more in the fall when I replace the tires. Otherwise Cooper CS5 Grand Touring and General Altimax RT43s are on my short list, just not real keen on the price.

Could always get stupid too: https://www.simpletire.com/yokohama-225-65r17-33339-tires

That’s where I got the original Grabbers for my van, so I usually check there first.

Otherwise I buy at Farm and Fleet when they have their buy 3 get one free sale going.
