The exhaust is annoying me. It’s a bit too loud and bit too harsh s o I purchased a 4 inch round glasspack muffler that should hopefully change the tone a bit and bring things down to sanity level of volume. Of course, I need a way to get it on there - so enter the $38.99 flux core welder from Ebay. Oh boy.

Also, to be clear - I’m not using that mask. I bought a real one along with a set of welding gloves. I’ve never welded before so much practice will be had before I do it for real.

I am very interested to hear how this goes.

An Oppo-tunity Announcement for Learning, Experience, Entertainment and Enlightenment. May it go well!

In my case, I would probably set fire to the car and the immediate surroundings. And my hair. And I probably wouldn't tell Oppo about it...

I have always found exhausts to be among the more difficult things to weld. Thin walls, cheap metal, dirt, oil and grime and the round surface make clean welds tough for me. Make sure you get it good and clean.

Report back! I'm interested in hearing how a $40 welder works!

When using the harbor freight 90amp(which appears to be the same) the main problem was no real control over voltage other then a switch so you couldnt weld well on thin materials.

If you find this to be a problem I’d move up to this welder: https://m.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200709043_200709043?cm_mmc=Google-pla&utm_source=Google_PLA&utm_medium=Welding%20%3E%20MIG%20%2B%20Flux%20Core%20Welding&utm_campaign=Century&utm_content=68389&&cm_mmc=Google-pla&utm_source=google_PLA&utm_campaign=&mkwid=sCUGeeTnk&pcrid=39155627516&devicetype=m&gclid=CjwKCAjwscDpBRBnEiwAnQ0HQH5_B-cI1S2gE7esV7-yDd6jj7KEwCPAC8NnPxXjYc7YNbS9ij-ZphoCw2cQAvD_BwE

This is what I used to fabricate all the turbo lexus exhaust and it's been excellent for thinner gauges found on exhaust and panels

While welding is always a good skill to have, this might also be a good application for a supertrapp. https://supertrapp.com/ . They’re super common in the racing world, yet hardly seen outside of it. The advantage of them besides being light is being tuneable via the number of diffuser disks inside. That lets you dial in both sound and back pressure to your liking. You might be able to run a S upertrapp setup that keeps thing reasonable on the street, and then unbolt it for a track day.

Interesting idea - though a bit pricey.
