So I bought a TR7 of ebay recently without viewing beforehand (yeah I know bad idea) as it had an mot and supposedly only needed the carbs doing (not an issue as the engine was being swapped)
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
well there has been some progress made on it today but some shocking discoveries on it that may have put me off it, though these issues will be rectified
Starting with the underside... a lot of rust, some fibreglass and underseal
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Then we come to the worst part, the strut tower... the red outline is where it should be connected to the body but isn’t...
one good thing though, my dad had some other wheels lying around that was put on to see how it looks and think it suits it well compared to the wheels that came with it

How does a car like that get a MOT pass?

Interesting.. . can you go after the last shop that issued the MOT pass? After all, you bought the car sight unseen because they claimed it was good.

it’ll be more hassle than it’s worth as they’ll probably claim it was fine when they passed it and that I can’t prove it was that bad (mainly the strut tower) when they did it even though it was only last month and unlikely to deteriorate that quickly. also I’ve yet to get the logbook back in my name so can’t check where it was last mot’d

Were there any MOT failures (or interesting things to monitor) before the most recent pass?
Even if the system failed here, I do think it’s very good that the UK publishes MOT results online. I’d love it if we did that here in the US.

Nothing showing earlier than these 2 so must’ve been off the road for quite some time

Ouch that’s a rather nasty place for it to be rusty. Good thing you found it now, instead of once it’s V8 powered.
I’m so hoping my R17 will be as rust free as it seemed when I bought it....

There’s always going to be some rust hiding somewhere on classic cars it seems
