i’ve never seen a crane with the tower section width decreasing as it does here. IT still blows my mind that these things stand never mind pick things up and put them down (without falling over... usually)

This is done to increase the maximum freestanding height of the crane so they don’t have to tie it into the building which requires additional engineering and also costs quite a bit more money .
