That’s a lake? I guess I haven’t been to see any of the Great Lakes, so I have no frame of reference, but that’s a great big body of water. I’ve only seen endless water like that on ocean shores. I need to get out and see my own country more...

Yeah, it’s insane. I’m from the desert, but hike around Kauai every other year, and got the same sense here as I do in the middle of the Pacific. Crazy amount of fresh water.

They are gigantic. Some of them are bigger than some of the states in the north east.

If you have a chance to check out Grand Traverse, I can’t recommend it enough. It’s the clearest, stillest water you’ll ever see in North America. It’s stunning.

That first shot looks like tropical water meets PNW everything else.

That’s exactly what it looks like in person. Super clear tropical looking waters with evergreens, ferns, aspens...
Not quite as damp as the Northwest. It’s strange to see so much water without the salt smell.

Looks beautiful. Not at all what I would have pictured.
I was sitting at a bar right on the P uget S ound tonight thinking “it’s strange to see land across the ocean”

Lake Superior is 350 miles long and 160 miles wide. Combined the Great Lakes would be the 12th largest state in the US by area.

It’s beautiful. What’s great is everyone here is too fat to hike the trails, so they’re all empty.
Similar vibe to the more inland (methy) parts of the Puget Sound.

Yep, that’s a big lake. It’s interesting, you can only see about 3 miles if you’re standing on the shore. Even from a 100' cliff you can only see around 12 miles. Stolen from reddit:
With some unit conversion, we get a couple of very accurate rules of thumb:
The distance to the horizon in miles is 1.2 times the square root of your height in feet. Or,
The distance to the horizon in kilometers is 3.6 times the square root of your height in meters.
But yeah, that’s a pretty durn big lake

This state never ceases to amaze me. So many amazing views and areas to explore. That’s why everyone that goes on vacation goes “up north”. Hit up Traverse City if you’re still around, or if you go to the UP Sault Ste. Marie, tahquamenon falls and Pictured Rocks. It’s beautiful up there.

And from up there you can barely smell the horse shit. It is beautiful up there though.

I lived in Erie for 2 years; I never got tired of seeing the lake.
I’d love to see all the Great Lakes at some point, maybe as an epic road trip...
