I saw that, too. I’ll be curious on the diagnosis.

Seems like the FB25DI engine is designed to be fully blown or demonstrably incapacitated after 25,000 kilometres...

Subaru has always struck me as the most European of the Japanese brands...

For rea l , though. You will either be complete fine or experience a catastrophic failure, their doesn't seem to be an in-between.

Our outback has been good other than the short block when it was burning oil! And brakes every 25k, and a CEL Christmas tree every few months.

Maybe it was a good idea my friend bought the extended warranty...

Subaru are known for their decisiveness. It’s like they take Yoda’s Maxim to the extreme - “ D o or do not. There is no try."

Subaru is really fun to watch since they’re so common—it’s a lot like a zombie movie where you take bets on who gets infected next. Still want a 3.6R, though, if only to own a Japanese flat-six for solely the weirdness factor.

I had no trouble with my 2002 Impreza when I had it, but I’ve heard a lot of negatives on modern Subarus and reliability of late....

I bought it on my first Subaru and never used it.

I had numerous issues with my 02 Impreza. Maybe 8 wheel bearings and 3 axles. Not to mention the crank angle sensor and a severe valve adjustments.

Other than the rust that killed it (and the exhaust rusting out twice), I didn’t have any issues with mine! It was even the known-to-blow
-head-gaskets-like-candy 2.5L non-turbo and the head gaskets never went once!

The EJ20 in our 19 year old SF Forester is at 265,000 kilometres. Original head gaskets, original clutch...just a bit tired in the hill climbing department.
