The X-runner is probably one of the dumbest trucks ever made. I think sporty trucks are an odd niche, but 236 horsepower and 266 lb-ft of torque in a light truck isn’t sporty.

This guy then decided the truck wasn’t dumb enough, so made it worse. Snow in the photos, so this truck has been on the lot a LONG time.

Also...$26,000.00

lol ok bud.

I wonder if the stickers on the dash will stick to your forehead in an accident.

Other than the stickers and the Hurst shifter, I could rock the truck like it is.

They were pretty quick for a truck, while pulling Miata numbers on the Skidpad, and having a proper 6 speed manual.

IIRC, there was a bolt-on TRD supercharger option as well. it doesn’t seem all that impressive now, but at the time it was obamanotbad.gif

having said this, not really my cup of tea. nor are the mods to this one.

Smoked headlights, for when you felt like you could see too well at night.

...X Runner? Huh. Is that stock suspension? Didn't know Toyota sold a slammed truck. Weird.

If I never used my truck for any truck purposes, I’d drive the hell out of an x-Runner. Not at 26K though. Lol

These and the X-treme S10s are peak pointless imo. IIRC the sport dakotas got a bigger V8 at least.

I believe the TRD supercharger brought it to 304 hp and 334 lb-ft of torque.

I really like the idea of a sporty pickup truck. On paper, a lowered 2wd manual V6 Tacoma seems like a good idea. But, then I test drove one, and it has the same vague steering that any pickup truck has. Sigh. It did feel pretty fast in a straight line.

Correct, which would actually make it pretty viable for a fun toy.

They got the big V8.........for a grand total of........14 extra hp.

In a heavier truck, with a heavier motor hanging over the front wheels, mated to a 4-speed auto.

Hard to find info, but looks like it also had 25-50lbft of torque too, depending on year. Also I guess its was the R/T, Sport was just a trim level.

But at least it got an actual mechanical change for the sporty model, thats all  Im saying.

I’m just saying, this truck actually has semblance of sport behind it, with it’s suspension, aero, 6-speed manual.

The Dakota RT was basically a Dakota Sport with a 5.9L. It was heavier than this truck, with minimally more power, mated to a 4-speed auto, and regular truck suspension.

And the R/T was a full generation older but yet still just as fast. Your defense of the X-runner is confusing. “Aero”... come on.

FWIW the R/T also had lowered/beefed up suspension.

The X-runner had model specific body parts that were added for better aero dynamics, it had better suspension that gave it Miata level grip, plus was spec’d as manual only. Why is that confusing?

Because a drop and a body kit is quintessential poser when you cant back up the looks.  Theres a reason why no one is doing this anymore.

I think being the best handling sport truck on the market is backing up the look, but I get your point.
