H ere’s my issue with the Byson and what I would say to anyone considering the package:
The Byson doesn’t add anything to the package that couldn’t be easily replicated in the aftermarket.
YI still get the same suspension, drivetrain, tires, everything. It’s just armor and aesthetics.
So if you don’t need all of the armor or you don’t like all of the aesthetics, just get a standard truck and add what you want.
After all, half of the fun for the people who buy these things is burning cash on aftermarket stuff so they can crawl on asphalt in style.

Agreed, but that can be said with all of the TRD Pro line up and even the Raptor.
All the best race cars, rallycars, trophy trucks, started life as either body in whites or base versions.
No one is going to mess up a TRD Pro Tacoma to go Baja-nuts on it. They take a base SR5 and make it better than a TRD Pro.

Did they fix the airbags too?

Well, yeah, that’s the whole point. AEV is an aftermarket outfitter. Their “version” is just going to have bolt-ons for those who don’t want to source and install the parts themselves. I would say the inclusion of a warranty with the parts is a big selling point though.

What’s the revised payload on these things? The regular ZR2 wasn’t great, and the addition of armor isn’t going to help that.

The press sheet that came with the car said payload 1223 lbs, trailer 5000, weighs 4758

The payload for the crew cab, short-box ZR2 is only 1,100 lbs . Did they change the springs or something?

I’m not sure their stuff would impact most warranties though. Unless you are worried about aftermarket body panels fading and being covered under warranty for paint and finish.
It's just a bunch of skid plates and body cladding

They also have a snorkel, if i’m not mistaken. Its the benefit of the OEM install and associated warranty with any wiring.

It’s funny how fast we forget that 1000 lbs was the payload rating for your traditional 1/2 ton truck for years

1,000 lbs for a regular cab truck, where you can only put two people in it, is a lot different than a crew cab with a payload of 1,000. Its even worse if you plan on towing. If you pull a 5,000 pound trailer, you’ll have a tongue weight of 500-750lbs (10-15%), leaving space for one big adult or two small ones. Its really easy to overload them.
Just me, my wife, our small kids, and dog are almost 600 pounds combined without luggage. In my opinion, if you’re using a crew cab for family or towing duty, the payload needs to be north of 1,500.

This.
All the manufacturer packages and special editions are to the extreme -Poochie.
Put in the effort and pick your own parts, you will spend less and end up with your own ride just for you, as opposed to the other one sold off the lot.
