In Spain you can ride 125cc motorcycles without a motorcycle permit.
I don’t know how it is in the EU, but the guy that told me seemed pretty showoffy about it.
In Mexico City, you could be legally blind and still get a license, which lets you drive vehicles up to 3.5 tons. Including motorcycles #freedom

IIRC when talking with coworkers in Germany, your motorcycle license level is dependent on the horsepower of the bike you want to own. More power of the bike, higher level of motorcycle license you need.
Same is true for towing a trailer, you must show you can safely maneuver a vehicle while towing a trailer, but that also depends on the weight and number of axles on the trailer. I really really wish we had this type level of requirements in the US

That was why when I was in Spain hordes of yutes would ride around on bikes that sounded like chainsaws. Every night sounded like a lumberjack competition.

Those might be the 50cc two stroke bikes that do not need a license to ride (ie; 15 year olds)

Here its similar, but apparently the 125s are exempt

I think you’re right. I know they were small two-strokes but I had forgotten the specific regulations that led to the hordes. Not that I blame them at all. If I was a young person in a small Spanish town in the middle of nowhere I’d be doing the same thing.

I mean, as a non-resident I’m exempt of all that crap; I just drive with my license... anything except box trailers. I never knew their struggle

While I am all for these more rigourous standards, you know that most people will just do it unlicensed.
The number of people I see driving around on suspended licenses is wayyy more than zero. It should ALWAYS be zero!

I don’t know about the legally blind part, but the 25,999 lbs before you need a commercial license (some require the full licenses/road test, some just the written part) is set by a 15 or so states such as Texas. If you live in most of the other states there is no restriction. In my state I could probably drive a 45ft long bus and tow a car behind it using a regular DL. Based on the Full Faith and Credit Clause (Article IV of our constitution) those other states would generally need to let me drive my RV through their states without issue (provided it is a non-commercial purpose as that is another set of rules).
Another example would be driving some of the newer 7,000 lb curb weight dually’s with a 35,000 trailer.

The fact people will break the law isn’t a great reason not to have it. Though personally I would like facial recognition to flag drivers with suspended licenses so police could pull them over and impound the car right away (it’s not good enough for that right now, but combined with a license plate reader, I suspect you could get a very low false positive rate).
Two caveats:
1. Don’t suspend drivers licenses for non-safety related things (taking away someone’s license due to unpaid fines or child support is only going to make it harder for them to pay)
2. Don’t build gigantic tracking databases of faces/plates. Toss all data within a week unless it is being used for an active investigation (in which case only preserve relevant info).

I still support doing it, like I said. At this point I'm willing to try anything that might work and measure its effectiveness. However I think the US would need a culture shift before anything truly starts working well.
