The V70 is a seriously nice highway car

Yesterday I wound up on the highway for the first time since I bought the V70, and it was wonderful. I’m now completely fine with how much of a boat it is, because that lets it soak up everything on the highway, and just be a lovely, smooth, mile-devouring couch. I think the only car I’ve had that could hold a candle to this on the highway was my 633CSi, and it had scary 1970s brakes, and no AC. Maybe I’ve become completely lame and boring, but I’d rather be in the V70. The e24 did ride better in town, however. Not less of a boat, just smoother.

It’s been so long since I had a car I enjoyed driving on the highway, I think I’ll be doing a lot more small road trips again, and hopefully big ones too. At least trying to.

I completely agree. Mine is a horrid car to drive through a busy city or anywhere with bad roads. On the open road it's the best.

People make fun of the traditional American boats we drive on out highways, but it’s a case of the right tool for the job. We have a big country and a lot of highways.

I love driving boats because they make my commute and any roadtrips a complete relaxing joy. I cant stand being in a bumpy loud car at highway speeds

They make a lot of sense up here too. BC is a big freaking province. Some relatives are only 2 or so hours away, the cabin I used to go to all the time is 6 hours away, and other relatives are 14 hours away.

This one isn’t the greatest in tighter city conditions, but I don’t mind it. I think it’s comfy enough that it relaxes me more. I’ve yet to take it on bumpy roads, but with the less wheel and more tire, it shouldn’t be bad.

Canada is huge and has some good roads. It’s made for this car. We drove from Ann Arbor to London once for a work meeting. About as boring a road trip as you can imagine, but it was a smooth and straight drive. My Buick supercharged V6 ate it up like candy.

Took delivery of my V60 and left on a 600 mile trip the next day (about 3 weeks ago) . Agree, I could do some time in that seat with no discomfort.

Back in ‘97, when I graduated from law school, I needed a car for a week, and Enterprise had an 850 wagon. I was really impressed with it - sort of the Swiss Army knife of cars. If I had to buy a car today, I’d probably wind up in a Volvo wagon.

I think what you fail to note is that the V70/S60 had some of the most comfortable seats I've ever had the pleasure of sitting in for a long drive.

Oh yeah, I went on about those in an earlier post I think. Coming from my Legacy, the seats are like half the reason I bought the car.
